Premier League - No FIFA action over Ronaldo

Eurosport - Tue, 17 Jun 09:54:00 2008

FIFA have announced they will not take any formal action against Real Madrid over Manchester United's complaint about the Spanish club's pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo.

FOOTBALL 2007-2008 Champions League Man United-Chelsea Ronaldo - 0

But football's world governing body has issued a warning to Real of the consequences of inducing the Portuguese winger to breach his contract.

FIFA said in a statement that they had received a complaint from United last week but that no regulations had been broken by the Spanish club so far.

FIFA's statement read: "We can confirm that we received last week a formal complaint from Manchester United related to the player Cristiano Ronaldo and the club Real Madrid. From the documentation received, no breach of contract appears to have occurred yet.

"Therefore, in accordance with the applicable practice, no kind of formal procedure has been opened by FIFA regarding this matter.

"The Spanish Football Federation has been informed of the complaint lodged by the English club and been asked to remind its member club Real Madrid about the potential legal consequences of a breach of contract without just cause during the protected period and of a possible inducement to such a breach of contract, as established by the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players."

  1. It'll be sad to let him go cos we 're beginning to look like a cheap supermarket to Real Madrid..first Becks, then Nistelrooy, then Heinze and now Ronaldo?..wtf.. we are looking like fools..when can we be the best when we are looking like Walmart?..i'd sell him to anyone but Real..after all it's the club reputation at stake here too..we take years to assemble a winning side and these so called royalties come with their filthy bucks claiming rights to the best of Europe?..you gotta be joking..when are we gonna be the best in the world like that? Are we gonna sit down acknowledging that the most skillful players are from the La Liga year after year?..well..DO SOMETHING or we'll start looking like Bordeaux or cheap Wigan or Portsmouth

Financial?..rubbish..you'll lose supporters in the long term..Real is gaining supporters year by year..you used to be undisputed..now you are selling them supporters and your reputation..DAMN..IS THE CLUB IMAGE WORTH 75 MILLION?

Real splashes that cash every year cos their reasoning is that shirt and sponsor sales will cover the price..our club is more profitable but we are looking like a bunch of beggers thanks to some smartass baseball fa

and for Ronaldo to go?..Well if you can't live without them.. then we can't stop you..let Real take your best years then boot you out when another guy gets the spotlight claiming to be the real deal..or even worse.. what if you don't fit in?..bench warm like Henry? Real shows no love..they'll chop heads at the sight of a mistake and their fans will stone you to death..look what they did to Hierro, Ronaldo, Figo or Becks?

And England created football for heaven's sake..you ppl literally live on it..are we saying that the best of england is second to some spanish bullshit?..Don't let their 9 European cups blind you..During the reign of SAF they won 3..we won 2..so that still makes us competitive (unless you like to boot up your grandfathers stories from the 60's)

  6. Ross, it's YOU that are wearing blinkers if you HONESTLY believe that Furguson would leave the world's greatest player "rotting in the reserves" while all the while, his transfer value was dropping like a stone......GET REAL. Do you HONESTLY BELIEVE the Glazer's financial backers would allow that to happen? Seriously, you are living in cloud cuckoo land if you think that they wouldn't cash in on a player that no longer wanted to play for them and use the money to buy two or three that did, just because he @#$% them off? Jeez, i'm glad that you ain't my bank manager if you think that's good housekeeping.......So put him in the reserves, then when his "contract" runs out, he can walk away for free? Or cash in and get get 50mill for an unhappy player? Give me a break.....If he REALLY wants to go, they'll have to let him, contract or no, trust me on that.

  7. Well, well, we have another fool in First L to join rossghwv.

    From andres4790, on Tue 17 Jun 2:43PM
  8. wow,it is very surprising that yet again the "world's best football club" wants a player form United.Maybe they can buy a player like Cristiano and train him to be the best in the world. The Premiership is the world's strongest and most spectacular ligue, the Primera is in the second place.Just look what players does the Primera have and after, look what the Premiership has to offer.Ronaldo will stay at Manchester beacause it is the best in the world, and real football is playerd in England not in Spain.

From First L, on Tue 17 Jun 2:13PM
  9. Oh yeah, and another point: According to official figures, if Real Madrid get CR, they will take over again from Man U as the richest club in the world. As I said, rossghwv, research the point that you are willing to make.

    From andres4790, on Tue 17 Jun 12:53PM
  10. By the way, the most difficult league to win is, according to FIFA, still the Spanish one. While the Premiership is deemed to be the most interesting (I agree), the Primera is the most demanding. Again. look at the numbers, visit some official websites, and then talk. You are showing that you have no clue whatsoever.

    From andres4790, on Tue 17 Jun 12:49PM
  11. rossghwv, I though that you may be a person with which we can discuss a serious issue. I'm sorry that I was wrong. You are ranting and raving bullshit, with all due respect. How can anybody possibly come up with "Manchester United are historically the greatest club in the world". That is stupid and idiotic. Manchester United is not even historically the most successful club in England. Liverpool is still by a long chalk, whether you like it not, as Sir Alex Ferguson keeps reminding everybody. Read and learn a bit of football history, or alternatively, grow up.

    From andres4790, on Tue 17 Jun 12:47PM
  12. You lot are so blinkered. There is no doubt that historically Man Utd are the biggest club in the world. Also, they are currently the richest club in the world by a long way. Business wise we would need 400 million to break even so why not let him rot in the reserves, as Ferguson and the Glaziers have already agreed. I do follow european football and it is boring compared to the premiership, which is unquestionably the most difficult league in the world to win and the best league in the world. Look how far Liverpool and Arsenal are behind Utd, yet even those also rans are way ahead of the rest of europe. There is not one ex Man Utd player who has improved their game as a result of a move to Real Madrid. Madrid are playing catch up with us and will be for a long time but they will never get their hands on Ronaldo.

From rossghwv, on Tue 17 Jun 12:05PM
  13. Again, melaniepoynton, well said.

    From andres4790, on Tue 17 Jun 11:44AM
  14. Dear rossghwv, again you are wrong and letting your heart rule your head. First of all, Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world historically, whether you like it or not. Second, the players that Real Madrid bought from Man U, as you would know if you paid any attention to anything outside the UK, showed that they were not beyond their sell-by date. And third, any player can cancel his contract if he pays the amount equal to his remaining salary, as Figo did with Barcelona when he went to Real Madrid. Get real and learn something mate, instead of coming up with concepts that have no foundation. Otherwise, I do wish you and your club all the best, with and without CR.

    From andres4790, on Tue 17 Jun 11:36AM
  15. Sorry Ross, but that's completely incorrect......If a player doesn't want to play for you, regardless of how good he is, why the hell would you want to keep him? And there's no way Utd would EVER be so dumb as to let such a saleable asset rot in the reserves, the game's about business.....The days when the likes of George Graham would let a player rot in the reserves for six months as some form of "punishment" are long gone, the players hold waaay too much power these days for that ever to happen. You or other Utd fans may not want him playing for one of your biggest rivals, but "money talks and bullshit walks" and if Real offered the right money and the player really wanted to leave, i'm afraid it's game over....Don't forget, even the Glazer's have got a bank to answer to, they bought a DEBT when they bought Utd.

From melaniepoynton, on Tue 17 Jun 11:26AM
  16. Sorry but contracts are worth the paper they are written on. If Ronaldo puts in a transfer request then he will be told no, not even if Real Madrid offer 300 milliion for him. If he is not happy he can spend the next four years in the reserves. It is good business because it will cost us more than that if we sell him to our closest rivals. He loves the attention but in his heart he knows he is not leaving because when a player has played for Man Utd he can do no better. All players sold by Man Utd to Real Madrid have passed their sell by date or we wouldn't sell.

From rossghwv, on Tue 17 Jun 11:08AM
  17. FERGIE! Let him go.. 70 million pounds plus robinho and ramos.... Top deal!

From husainhassim, on Tue 17 Jun 11:05AM
  18. Well said melaniepoynton, quite true. The player decides.

    From andres4790, on Tue 17 Jun 10:41AM
  19. rossghwv, you are wrong. FIFA would do something if they found an irregularity in the transfer, NOT if the player is legally transferred. Don't let your passion for ManU blind you, as I said before, nowadays, the player decides, not the club. Be it for good or for bad. The problem here lies in marketing and economic potentials, which, unfortunately, rule.

    From andres4790, on Tue 17 Jun 10:40AM
  20. Utd should stop whingeing, and Utd fans should remember that all the speculation was started by Ronaldo HIMSELF. If he'd just said "i'm staying at Utd" and not gone on and on about how he'd love to play at Real, there'd be no problem would there? Besides Utd are fine ones to talk, they stalked Van Nistelrooy for two seasons at least, and badgered Bayern Munich abouut Hargreaves for years...Fact is, all contracts these days are not worth the paper that they're written on, their only use is for the player's agent to use as a stick to beat his current club with and to wave in the face of any possible suitors....Utd should either pay the bloke enough money to make him stay or just let him go but either way, stop whining about it. I'ts a free market these days and they should know that better than most, they've abused it plenty of times themselves....
