Bundesliga - Bayern claim Ribery bids

Eurosport - Tue, 16 Jun 16:05:00 2009

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claimed Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona have made offers for France playmaker Franck Ribery.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Bundesliga Bayern Ribery - 0

Ribery is a known target for big-spending Real Madrid but Rummenigge has revealed three of their European rivals have stolen a march in their pursuit of the 26-year-old.

The former Germany international, speaking in an interview with Bild newspaper, said: "We are relaxed and proud that we have one of the best three players in the world under contract."

He added: "Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and his advisor Pedro Jimenez asked if we were willing to speak with them over a transfer but we rejected the chance and we have no intention of selling Ribery."

Asked if Madrid made an offer, he replied: "No but other clubs have done. Chelsea have lodged a bid, as have Manchester United and Barcelona. We are completely relaxed about it. The power lies with Bayern Munich."

Bayern have repeatedly insisted Ribery is not for sale, and Rummenigge is adamant the club will not relent and cash in on their prize asset.

He added: "I don't want to talk about sums of money because it is not in our interest. The amount is irrelevant.

"There is always going to be the perception that Bayern Munich are trying to push the price up and that there is a certain value at which we'll have to accept, but I'll say it again: we want to keep Ribery.

"A player has to respect his contract, in his case until 2011. He is on holiday now and then we want to have a successful season with Franck next year."

  1. tommyfcb2006, that's because the laws governing these league (as a business) are different due to the fact that they are in different countries. Platini was complaining about laws in England allow clubs to go deep in debt while Germany and France don't let businesses (clubs) do that. (News flash: the combine debt of the 20 EPL teams exceed £4 billions). As the result, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 clubs don't have a lot of money to spend on player. When a few good players from a German or French club get injured, the club is screwed.

  3. The Bundesliga is the third best league in the world. It has in my opinion the best stadiums in the world. Just look at the allianz arena, Dortmunds stadium and hamburgs stadium. They also have the largesaverage attendance at every game.

Its funny how the English always have a cocky arrogance when it comes to Germany.

This is strange for a country that has only won one world cup back in 1966!!

Germany has won 3 world cups and 3 Euro Championships. Their economy is twice as large and they make the best cars.

England really needs to win another cup before it starts bullying other nations!!!!! I smell inferiority ;)

  4. So so funny. Beckenbauer and Rumminigue are hallucinating. Ribery is an incredible player but he is NO top three. so funny to hear that!! where can we place Ribery between: Messi, Ronaldo, and Kaka??!! then there is another list that Ribery fight to geta spot in the top 10. He is top 10 material for sure. Definitelt not a top 3 and not a top five yet!for the fourth and the fifth we have others better fighting for it: Torres, Iniesta, Guerrard, Ibra, Eto. Then I'll probably place Ribery. So he looks like the ninth or tenth best player for now.
    The germans are gone wild...lol

  6. I read a comment some wher saying that ribery has carried france.. thats wrong anyone tat followed the team would know that zidane had carried tem for years... also i read a comment saying that the only reason that man united were dominant in the last few years is because the italians are going through a transiition period??? so when the italians were dominant imn europe is that because the english germans spanish etc were going through a transitional period?? england has clearly been the strongest league in europe the last frew years... and man united has been the strongest team in england. bayern munich have been very poor by there standards so stop been so defensive when people call ye a small club.. because at the moment by yer standards ye have falling behind the same way real madrid has. and whats all this talk about good buisness and bringing through players in another comment?? every club this that.. hence the likes of raul messi maldini scholes etc.

  8. Ribery will not come to the Premier League because he knows that he does not have what it takes to compete in the toughest football league in the world!!! He would have no chance of justifying what ever ridiculous fee Bayern are expecting. Can you imagine the likes of Gerrard or Essien or Anderson etc getting stuck into him? I do not think so!!!!!!!!
I suggest he goes and plays football with the other @#$% in La Liga; he will fit in well there.....

  9. Well said Dania, well said. As a die-hard Bayern fan myself, your comments were right on the money. Bayern is a top 10 club in the world and always has been. You Man U fans are in for slightly harder times now that you've lost the "grease-boy." Despite what you people think, you will miss Ronaldo.
Ribery is staying at Bayern this year and even if he doesn't we will still make some ridiculous money off of him. Thanks for taking Hargreaves from us. He was never worth that much money anyways.
Bayern will be okay next year, with or without Ribery.

  12. I can not help to laugh when I read ManU fans comments. They put a lot en emphasis pointing out how Bayern is a small team and how Ribery plays in a minor league, how ManU knows how to do business and Blah blah blah.

I got some news for you: Bayern bought Ribery with the money you Manchester United paid for Owen Hargreaves, two years later you do not know what to do with Hargreaves and come back knocking at our door offering £50M or £60M for Ribery. Where were your scouts? Why didn’t you directly buy Ribery? You could have saved £45M just doing what Bayern Munich did.

BTW, history is on Bayern Munich’s side: They have 4 European Crowns, you have only 3. Bayern has played the final 7 times, you have only 4 finals. The only reason why you have done so well in the last two seasons is because the big Italian Clubs: Milan, Inter, Juventus along Real Madrid are going to a transition, in the case of Bayern it has not found its rhythm after it lost a generation of players, once you find a more leveled playing field across the board in Europe forget about two consecutive seasons going to the final. From 1999 to 2008 (that’s 9 years) what did you win in Europe?

  15. Also Andy, apologies if it seems i'm having a go or anything, but you also mention Lahm?

Phillipe Lahm was a product of Bayern Munich's youth academy. He spent two years on loan Stuttgart before returning to Munich, rather than being purchased!

Just, as you put it, football common sense also requires a little knowledge when passing damning opinions of players and clubs.

  18. Again the ignorance of the english football fan comes to the fore. Franck Ribery IS probably the most underrated footballer in the world. Simply because he hasn't signed for one of the "BIG 4" and played in the "ever so wonderful" premiership, he's not good enough??
He was one of the best players at the last World Cup, and his injury was one of the reasons France struggled in the last Euros, he was carrying them.
Andy, your comment about Bayern is ill placed and in part ill informed. You claim they sign the best YOUNG players, and then named Butt, signed at the age of 34, and Klose, signed at 29 for more than twice what Bremen paid for him 4 years earlier. That says to me if they were purely in the business of snapping up young talent, they'd have bought him years ago at a fraction of wht they did pay. They are a good side stuck in a mediocre league.
This season disposing of S.Lisbon 12-1 on agg in CL. Not Bad for an average side?
