La Liga - Valencia and Bayern stall Real

Eurosport - Tue, 16 Jun 12:11:00 2009

Real Madrid's summer spending spree is being stalled by Valencia and Bayern Munich's refusal to compromise over David Villa and Franck Ribery.

FOOTBALL 2009 France - Benzema et Ribery - 0

Madrid director general Jorge Valdano admitted to his frustration at what he feels are excessive demands for the Spain striker and France winger (pictured right).

"We have been in talks to buy Villa the past week but there has been no agreement," Valdano said in an interview with Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

"What appeared to be well on the way to happening looks now to be falling through," he added. "If there is no accord we still have two or three more alternatives."

Valdano, who was appointed to help oversee a massive spending project to help rebuild the team under new president Florentino Perez, said Bayern were playing hardball on the Ribery transfer.

"They don't want to sell him and that's why they quoted us an astronomical price," he admitted.

In Germany, Bayern reiterated their desire to hold on to Ribery with at least three other major European clubs retaining an interest in buying him.

Still under contract until 2011, the Frenchman has recently hinted he would like to play in Spain or England but his German employers are adamant he will stay on

"We turned (a Real Madrid offer) down because we have no intention of selling Ribery," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Bild, adding that the Spanish club did not specify an exact amount while other enquirers had.

"Other teams have confronted us with specific sums," Rummenigge said.

"Chelsea have been in touch, as well as Manchester United and Barcelona."

Bayern said recently they would not consider any bids under 40 million euros for the 26-year-old France international.

"We did not buy Franck two years ago to cash in but to improve our team. Now we have to do everything for him to stay and I am determined to do that," Rummenigge said.

"A player has to respect his contract, in this case until 2011."

Lyon striker Karim Benzema (pictured left) was another target, but there was plenty of time before the end of the transfer period to negotiate a deal for the player, Valdano continued.

It appeared the club's efforts to sign Liverpool and Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso would come to nothing as the English club did not want to sell him, he added.

Real were looking to buy four or five more players following the purchase of Kaka and the record bid for Cristiano Ronaldo, but further arrivals depended on the club selling players first, Valdano said.

"There are interesting offers for some players but many of them do not want to leave," he said.

The club had received the most offers for Dutch pair Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder, Valdano added, but suggested the amount of money on the table was not enough.

  1. James D. You just don't get it do you. You're talking about Kaka and Ronaldo. That's everything in the whole world right now. everything else that comes would be like the ice on the top of the cake.
Let me make it more clear for you: with Kaka and Ronaldo playing together, everyone else will be playing just to stop both of thes guys. no one would have a chance to breathe because it's gonna be either the ball in kaka's legs ou CR7 legs...enough said

  2. Maybe Real could give Van der vart and Drenthe along with 30M to Bayern and another 20M along with Saviola and Salgado to Valencia to get Villa and Ribery. So it'll be 50M fee and four useless players off Real's back!

  4. look everybody said before the same when perez brought figo and zidan then they said no way to bring ronaldo and beckham but they were officialy brought to madrid
now they said real madrid can't bring both ronaldo and kaka
but thats fact both are in madrid
real madrid make 42 mil bid for villa and 45 mil for ribery and both bayern and valencia refuse, they were greedy and thought can get more but they are who will be losing alot, madrid with same amount of money can chase other players
i have told you that only 40% has been spend
we still have alot of names in our list especialy diffence
don't forget we are still in the begining of the transfer term so wait
remaimber that all this has been well calculated
i know all the clubs are afraid from real with perez so all fans especialy from retarded clubs like united chelsea man city and barca are sad coz we control the market
yes united have 80 mil but don't have anyone to replace ron
a small advice greedy will kill you all except real madrid, coz madrid don't care about money, we only care about happieness and titles
all the big names are in madrid, the show is in madrid and all the title will soon be in madrid
so haters shut your dirty mouth and watch or die with high blood pressure and heartAttack caused by jeoleusy.....

  5. Real had the basis of a good team last season with the Dutch players in it. The problem is they weren't managed effectively. If they had a good manager like SAF or Mourinho, and a good defense, for sure Real could compete with the English. Buying Kaka and Ronaldo and selling the dutch players is just insane. Van Der Vaart, Van Nistelrooy, Sniejder and Robben are good players. Ronaldo and Kaka are obviously top players but just two and one could get injured. They also need service otherwise they are pants.

  6. getachew44,

Bayern quoted Real a price and Real can't afford it. Real also want Villa for about 20mil but now they have to compete with Milan, Chelsea and Man U who will pay 50mil. Real are finished. They will sell 6 or 7 players to finance Ronaldo and Kaka. Ronaldo's dodgy hip will give way and he will miss most of next season (Fergie knew this which is why he sold him quickly!).

  7. gedeon.joly

Who the hell are most of those players? Ronaldo relies on service you know. He is pretty useless when he is left out on his own and he will start blaming his teammates and cause disharmony in the dressing room. Real are going to collapse next season because they are not properly run.

  8. Raimo K,

Real have spent all their cash. Now they are trying to get players on the cheap. Oops they forgot they just made their rivals a lot richer and also Barcelona have money to burn. Looks like ronnie made a big mistake!!! LOL!

  9. Valencia are just playing hard to get. they know madrid have cash to spend, so they are hoping to get more than david villa is worth. At the end of the day they need to sell their top players and david villa wants to go to real madrid. If Valencia aren`t more careful they could end up with 20 millon or something.

  10. @ getachew44,
Most of the players listed will be leaving Madrid in order to fund bids for the like of David Villa and so on.
Madrid do not have an endless wad of wash, so it's inevitable most of the dutch players will be leaving since they would generate the most cash, and their positions will be filled by the new signings.
Personally, I can't see Madrid progressing very far in the Champions League. Lots of individual players do not make a great team, as seen during the last 3 years of the previous Galactico era.
Team work is required as well as a quality coach who can manage the egos.

  11. "getachew" i like your point (No.11):
there are PLENTY of choices in todays soccer.
David Villa is likely to come to Real, but if not, then comes Benzema for sure (and there is Trezeguet also).
Franck Ribery would come, if they would allow him to come, but there is Robben, who is already in Real, so dont have to spend any on him, but
we need a right-back, and the best solution would be MAICON.
And Pellegrini is almost sure will get some players from Villareal, like SENNA or forward Giuseppe Rossi (that would be awesome also)
but "The team" for next year:

    --------------Casillas
    MAICON-S.Ramos-Pepe-Marce lo
    -------------Lass-SENNA
    ------C.RONALDO-KAKA-Robben
     --------------BENZEMA

  13. don't worry the market is ours
if villa and ribery are not for sale
    there are alot of others
in place of villa there are forlan eto benzima and tevez, we can take one of them
in place of ribery there are roben silva iniesta and aguero,
don't forget we have spend only 40% of the 300 mil euro we will spend
there are alot of diffence in our list

some people are with no brain
    read very well you'll understand
bayern don't want to sell ribery not real that doesn't have right price
when we talk about real madrid in general, kaka and ronaldo have been bought
maicon is almost ended, garay is back, zapata is also coming and vidic could come too
i think united without ronaldo will not even make it to last 16, milan without kaka the same
when a team that have casilas, ramos, garay, hainzi, marcelo, diara 1,2, garay, pepe, vidic, zapata, kaka, ronaldo, nisterlroy, heguen, roben, snijder, vandervart, raul and huntelar
when you say this team can't reach 1/4 final, it means your football knowledge is limited

  19. "James D" you are a really stupid observer, you dont have any sence to football, nor the whole money thing of Real Madrid...
Kaka almost went to Chelsea to Carlo Ancelotti, and they gave more money for him, but Real wanted to buy Kaka, so they gave this 67 mil € for him, so they could buy him...
CRonaldo was always attracted to Real, but Whiskey Ferguson wanted to keep him, and Real saw that they had the perfect opportunity to buy Ronaldo, so they did buy him for 80 million pounds...
Now they dont want to spend way TOOO much, and they want to get rid of some s.h.i.t dutch players, who didnt do any good inthe whole seaason, ONLY ROBBEN... and Valdano said, that if ribery or Silva wouldnt come, then Robben will be on the other side... AND if they wont reduce Villa's price, then they will buy either Diego Forlan (who has much experince) or the young and strong Karim Benzema (which I would prefer to Ibra, Villa or Forlan)

    Real Madrid next year:

    -----------Casillas-----------

    Maicon-S.Ramos-- -Pepe--Marcelo

    ------Lass---------Diarra-----

    C.Ronal do-----Kaka------Robben

    ------------Benzema-----------

    HALA MADRID!!

  20. If they are wasting money they could lost their confidence on 2nd round Champions League

I'm Maybe right about that. They should not buy ribery. They should buy villa to replace van nistelrooy
