Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo will not face any charges after writing off his Ferrari sports car in a crash, police said.
The Portuguese winger, who is set to move to Real Madrid after United accepted a record £80m bid last week, demolished the front of his high-performance vehicle when it hit a roadside barrier under a tunnel near Manchester Airport in January.
The FIFA World Player of the Year managed to escape uninjured and spoke to officers at the scene before making his way to Manchester United's training ground near Sale.
After investigating the incident and interviewing Ronaldo last month, police have decided not to take action against the 24-year-old, who also provided a written statement following the crash.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "No further action will be taken against the driver of a Ferrari 599 GTB, which collided with a wall on the A538 Wilmslow Road on Thursday, January 8.
"No-one was injured and no other vehicles were involved in the incident."
It is understood Ronaldo had only had the top-of-the-range sports car for a couple of days before the accident.
Skid marks were clearly visible at the scene of the crash and one of the red Ferrari's wheels came off.
Ronaldo's team-mate, goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, was understood to have been travelling behind him at the time of the incident and later provided a statement to police.

ronaldo is a freak and should go to hell
wouldnt you be really pissed off if you were real madrid and he died!!!
No evidence! funny! then his ferrari driven by who? probably by Devil,Red Devil.Hahahahahahahahaha
Im not a Ronaldo fan, but it seems that some posts on here think if you are a big footy player and you crash your car you should go to jail?? are you for real? WHY?? the guy lost control and wrote off his own motor. he damaged a wall. Big deal. No witnesses, no one else involved. His ego prob took a pasting, but i dont see how the police could charge him with anything without evidence...
The guy is a kid still, petulant on the pitch and off it no doubt.Glad hes gone but articles like this are just @#$%.Press having another hard day of not knowing what to print.zzzzzz
strange how he walks away from a (high speed) car crash unscathed and smiling but when he gets touched on a football pitch its like he been shot and he can never walk again! Thank heaven he gone!
Joe H and Trevor, clearly flem gargling scouse scum. Get a life gents seriously, get over the fact that you've just had another season of winning sweet FA AGAIN!!
what a surprise he got off with it,he probably gave police officers a nosh or something.the cheating @#$%.glad to see the back of him,he should take the rest of the manc scum with him.
It would certainly suggest that Ronaldo does not have the ability to drive a performance car and appears to need training in this respect.
he should have been jailed for 20 years the turd
painterman.... i do believe that trouble ACTUALLY BELIEVES what he wrote!!!!.... i've just fallen off my chair laughing as it's obviously quite the OPPOSITE!
To message 38 trouble. I do hope that is sarcasm????????????????????
bye bye cr...Man utd will bring good replacement as you soon to old trafford....i hope u to still success in bernabeu...
Think he'd better consider one of those new Volvos next, wouldn't mind one meself, with T5 refinements obviously to outrun the Babylon PMSL... But yeah, I bought my car with the equivalent of 2 weeks wages PMSL, it is a 1995 N reg Renault though. Could have been worse mind, he could have smashed a nice car up, Ferrari is just all a bit corny and a load of old b-o-l-l-o-x really...
CR - the tit! If he can't drive, she shouldn't be buying such cars - too much for her!
what a supprise ? how many more stars will get the preferential treatment ? corrupt ,it's one rule for one and another rule someone else
Wonder where the skid marks were
lol...really? I found a place that many players are hoo king up with h ot mo dels, seems the club called: __Tall connect Co M___, do you hear this before?
Why is this article on a sports message board? It has nothing to do with sport, if anything it should be under news. Apart from which most UK United fans are English just like me. They are no more hated then any other team, and if fact are loved by more then any other team. Man U is the most loved team in the world
beep beep
