How the day's transfer news and gossip unravelled, with Manchester United seemingly losing their battle to keep Carlos Tevez.
20:00 And that pretty much wraps things up for today. As usual, plenty of talking points so if you feel the need to get something off your chest before the ticker returns in the morning, visit our message boards by clicking on the link below the photo.
- At the end of another day of transfer wheeling and dealing, keep abreast of who's going where with our club-by-club guide to this summer's moves.
- And check out which deals have been given the green light - and which ones have ground to a halt with our summer transfer barometer.
19:00 MARTINEZ DEAL NEARLY DONE: Swansea and Wigan have finally agreed a compensation package for Roberto Martinez and his four backroom staff as the Spaniard's move to the JJB Stadium edges closer to completion.
- Atletico Madrid have received no offers for either Diego Forlan or Sergio Aguero and president Enrique Cerezo believes the pair are being used by other clubs as leverage tools in their transfer dealings. Atleti's star strikers have been linked with moves to Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea among others.
- Middlesbrough defender Emanuel Pogatetz has become a target for Italian giants Roma - and the Austrian hardman's agent claims talks have been already held between the two clubs.
- Everton defender Lars Jacobsen is being linked with a move to Premier League newboys Burnley, although the Dane is believed to be in talks over the continuation of his stay at Goodison Park.
- WORD ON THE STRASSE: Juventus defender Paolo De Ceglie is set to move to Napoli, although the deal will not include a clause that would see favour Juve in any future sale of highly-rated midfielder Marek Hamsik.
18:00 FERGUSON LOSING TEVEZ BATTLE: The Independent's website is reporting that Alex Ferguson's attempts to keep Carlos Tevez at Old Trafford will be in vain. The Argentine has been frank with the Manchester United boss, telling him he wants out, with cross-town rivals Manchester City leading the race for his signature.
- DEMBELE ATTRACTS ATTENTION: Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign exciting young Belgium midfielder Moussa Dembele. The 21-year-old AZ Alkmaar star is also thought to feature on Arsenal and Chelsea's radar.
- WORD ON THE STRASSE: DEAL! German goalkeeper Heinz Muller has completed his move to newly-promoted Bundesliga side FSV Mainz for a £600,000 fee.
- Orlando Engelaar - remember him from Holland's World Cup squad in 2006? - is set to quite Schalke after just one season with the Bundesliga side. Panathinaikos are close to a deal for the 28-year-old with Schalke chairman Josef Schnusenberg telling Kicker magazine: "The transfer is not done yet, but it looks like it is going to work out."
17:00 GREEN REJECTS HAMMERS OFFER: Reports are filtering through that West Ham and England keeper has rejected the offer of a new deal at Upton Park, a stance sure to put a number of top flight clubs on red alert. It is though the shot stopper is holding out for more than the £30,000 rise offered to him.
- WOLVES TO RAID BIG CLUBS: Premier League newboys Wolves want to bolster their squad with several highly rated youngsters. Boss Mick McCarthy is preparing bids for Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne, Manchester United midfielder Rodrigo Possebon and Liverpool winger Adam Hammill.

16:00 CARVALHO MAY STAY: Jose Mourinho may be keen on a reunion with Ricardo Carvalho, but the defender himself has admitted he could end up staying at Stamford Bridge."Inter have expressed their interest," he told Gazzetta dello Sport. "But the two clubs have to reach an agreement so there's a lot of work left to do and then they need to speak to me because I have a contract with Chelsea."
- Speaking of the message boards, there can be only one winner of the day's most ridiculous transfer rumour award - it goes to gunnersruleafc for the thread entitled 'Rooney to Arsenal'. No further comment is needed.
- Plenty to discuss today, with Drogba's future at Chelsea in the balance, Tevez still waiting to decide what he wants to do and Manchester United eyeing up David Villa.
- DEAL! Bolton midfielder Blerim Dzemaili has joined Torino for an undisclosed fee following a loan spell with the Italian side.
- 15:00 SPURS EYE SLOW, CLUMSY, OFF-FORM STRIKER: Tottenham target Luca Toni, speaking ahead of Italy's opening Confederations Cup game against the US: "Everyone is in great shape except me - I am described as slow, clumsy and off form." While that may seem the antithesis of a 'come and get me plea', it was apparently meant as a retort to his critics in the media. Shame sarcasm doesn't really come across in type, eh Luca. He sounds perfect for Spurs though.
- DROGBA ON HIS WAY? Chelsea are considering a swap deal that would see Didier Drogba reunited with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho at Internazionale, with Zlatan Ibrahimovich arriving at Stamford Bridge. But with Ibra valued at £76m, Chelsea would have to stump up some cash too, at least according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.
- Blackburn defender Zurab Khizanishvili is reportedly closing in on a £2.1m move to Turkish giants Galatasaray.

"Our next target is Dzeko," Milan vice president Adriano Galliani said in Calcio Mercato. "We hope the deal will go through but, if he doesn't arrive, we will need to sign a player with similar qualities."
- And geo_2525 is a fan of Villa too: "Villa is one of the best strikers in the world!!! Get him!!"
- This is what tevez_united has to say on the subject: "Fact is, Villa is world class and can play in any league in the world. If you take Berbatov out of the equation and put Villa in front of Rooney (playing his England role), you have a duo just as capable of destroying defences as Gerrard/Torres. At this point in time, I don't think Torres is a realistic target. By the way things are going, Tevez already appears gone, so it's between Benzema/Villa right now. I wish Berbatov was gone and we had them both in front of Rooney."
- 14:00 We all know Florentino Perez usually gets his man, but Gael Clichy is ready to buck the trend, the Arsenal full-back dismissing talk linking him with a move to the Bernabeu.

- Italian wesbites are saying Jose Mourinho's Inter are set to pip Manchester United to the signing of Lyon striker Karim Benzema by offering 20 million euros plus Mancini and Patrick Vieira.
12:00 Hulk, the Porto striker who impressed against Manchester United last season, has been the subject of a bid, reportedly from a Premier League side. But the Portuguese club have rejected it and rubbished talk of a summer move. Liverpool and Arsenal are believed to be interested.

But the Trotters may face stiff competition for his signature from Celtic, should Tony Mowbray be installed as Gordon Strachan's successor at Parkhead.
- Roman Pavlyuchenko is one of the players Stuttgart have considered as a replacement for Mario Gomez, according to their director of sport Horst Heldt.
- BREAKING NEWS! Inter have confirmed that they want to bring Chelsea's Ricardo Carvalho and Deco to Milan. "(Inter coach Jose) Mourinho has asked us for Deco and Carvalho and we are working towards making him happy," said Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport. "Our wish is to sign both players and I have seen that the players' intention is to join us. We still haven't reached an agreement with Chelsea but I think we will do in a short time."

Ronaldo was at his peak at mu, now he is gone, but still at its peak. That not withstanding, mu do not need to by a wall class player to replace him. Let the young talent b given the chance, they can still come out to be the best. A player like Macheda has a bright futur. One United, Ub

As a ManU fan i love Tevez. Having said that i don't think players should dictate to managers so if he feels like going then all the best to him. We should not be in a hurry to replace him with another striker. When will the likes of Wellbeck and Macheda have their chance if not now? Rooney and Berbatov are there to teach them one or two things, Come on SAF.
It pains me to say it but SAF will not be able to attract any world class strikers to Man U, until he can provide them with the service that only world class midfielders can supply. Put simply, we do not have that class of midfielder and that was evident in the game against Barca.
SAF has always ensured that no one player is bigger than the club. He's seen off players like Beckham, Van Nistelrooy and Jaap Stam. Whilst we'll all wait with baited breath about new signings, lets remember that he has the ability to make players far better than they were. Ronaldo is a case in point. There are many young talented players waiting in the wings for a chance to rise up through the ranks and they have had about 10 players out on loan as well. Tevez has always been a busy player, but you wonder about his style and whether he burns himself out in games by 'trying too hard'. If he truly wants out then let him go -he's not a £30m player and has had 2 years to try to justify that. Utd used 4 strikers in 1999 when they won the treble and should be aiming for that again. Berba and Rooney are the obvious lead partnership, with a new signing and either Macheda/Wellbeck slotting in from time to time.
Michael 40 you are spot on I dont understand the fuss from the fans - dont buy him use the money to bring in a world class player, anybody who watches the reserves regular will know that there is a great crop of new talent coming through lets see them develope - we need a midfield player who is good at arriving in the box like scholes or keen, Rooney could do it if we had a good targetman

I agree mate ;o)
Chelsea are reported this morning as the new favourites to sign him, ??? I thought he was leaving united for lack of first team football? well he will have a rude awakening at chelsea when he realises that squad rotation is also used there.
I think all of Man Utd's attacking forwards and midfielders, Berbatov, Nani, Rooney, Macheda, Wellbeck, Tosic, Park, Anderson, Fletcher, Carrick etc will have a better season without living in Ronaldo's shadow. I recon they will be tighter as a team. Add to that a new goal scorer, hopefully Benzema, I can see Man Utd having a better season than last year. They started pretty poorly, took only four points from their main rivals yet still were champions.
"i wouldn't like to see tevez go but his agents are money grabbing wags.he'll probably go to a lesser side for less money, wierd" - Darren H
Yeah. Lesser team indeed: City. They (agents) would trade League Championship and Champions League for mid-table mediocre performance from overrated players. Good luck Tevez. Your services to us much appreciated.
i wouldn't like to see tevez go but his agents are money grabbing wags.he'll probably go to a lesser side for less money, wierd
Friggin penniless yanks are making Liverpool look like a third division team offering measley amounts for even more measley faced players. It is diabolical that these yanks can screw up a team like Liverpool. Totally sad.
why do united fans like tevez over berbatov? all tevez talks about is how he wants to leave united. he'll end up with a big payday from city and will be mediocre at best. berbatov, on the other hand, turned down all the money city threw at him, came to united for less, and states over and over he wants to stay and play with united.
keep the players that want to stay, get rid of the ones that dont.
I would be more worry if Fletcher, Park or Brown starts pondering United exit....These are the REAL Man Utd players, they represent the team, not themself unlike Ronaldo and Tevez. I'm a United fan. If you're are, then you'll see who the real TEAM hero is.Not celebrities.
i think ronaldo can't play like he play with mu
Donney !Donney!
@@@#$%$#$^%&$#@????### ~!@@^|)(?^$#$ Your comment something like this.
During his early days Ronaldo was not impressive at all. He was rather clumsy and try to take on teams on his own. He was never adored then. As he matured he became a better player. He was the hero for the ManU fans. Unfortunately he became bigger than himself that is why even ManU supporters started to dislike him. Every supporters are entitled to their own opinions. And they showed it to Ronaldo last season. That is why his departure will not be greatly missed at OT. As for Tevez he has been talking openly about himself and I don't think any clubs would like that. What he said to the press should have been said behind closed doors. He made a circus out of himself knowing that his stay at OT is very much in the hands of his "owner" not at ManU's board. He had opened the door for himself and now he has to walk out the door. Good luck to him.
I'm sure he'll make a move to Chelsea as there are a few transfers out while Liverpool would be my second favorite. Don't really think Manu deserve his commitment after a number of Alex's comments about the player. He proved he was worth keeping though.
decent player but has no loyalty-i should no- being a westham fan!!!
will garantee tevez is a manchester player next season-but for the skyblues.
