Baggies fans 'disappointed' with Mowbray

Tue, 16 Jun 13:15:43 2009

West Brom supporters have criticised Tony Mowbray's decision to become the new manager at Celtic.

The Baggies chief looks set to complete his move to the Scottish giants this week and Alan Cleverley, secretary of the supporters' club, has questioned Mowbray's loyalty to the club.

He told the Daily Record: "There was a strong bond between him and the fans and if he goes to Celtic I and the supporters will be bitterly disappointed."

He added: "Most of it comes from a statement from himself at the end of the season when he asked players to show loyalty and stay for at least one more season.

"As far as I'm concerned that loyalty should count for the manager too. I was hoping Celtic would get someone else."

Meanwhile, the Baggies have arranged their only home friendly of the close season. They will face French side AS Nancy on Saturday August 1 with kick-off scheduled for 3.00.

  1. Keane WAS a player but we knew he was at the end of his career when he came to us, it doesn't make him any less of a player. We acknowledged his services to Éire and Man United - He was a Top name and a Top class World Footballer... I seem to remember Rangers doing the same with Claudio Cannigia and the DeBoers.
To us, well me anyway, Attractive attacking football wins hands down - If you get a trophy it's a bonus. I was lucky enough to see wee Jinky playing when I was 4 and that's what got me hooked...then Kenny Dalglish, George McCluskey, Frank McGarvey, Joe Miller, Owen Archdeacon, Paolo DiCanio, King Henrik etc, were the guys i looked up to - The guys that got you excited to get up on a saturday and take defences on. Some of them may not have been outstanding, but the gave their all and tried to play the game the way I think it should be played. What's the use in winning every year if it's pure pish to watch. Like I said a few days back to you, are you happy to watch Boyd or Hermann Lafferty up front on his jack jones and the rest of them in defence trying to stop teams from playing and just making for pure 18 certificate football?

  3. #89 If your only choice was between attractive football or winning trophies what would you pick?Honestly, every fan wants to see their team lift titles no matter how they do it,Johnson signs for us & gets death threats,so much so he leaves the country,Novo waives his signing on fee to sign for us instead of you and hes the devil incarnate,Roy Keane,THE most expensive player to play in the spl,and am including a certain Mr.Prodan who never even kicked a ball for us,is happy to pledge his "loyalty" to your club ,just sits back and picks up his paycheck and you lot treat him like some sort of god? Wake up and smell the flowers, sellik minded?sellik narrow minded

  6. Is Tony Mowbray any worse than a certain player who paraded in a Celtic Top one day, then went south of the Clyde to sell his soul tae Souness the next?
Like it was mentioned before, Tony was giving his all for WBA at the time and wanted his players to do the same. Then when Celtic wanted him the lure to his FORMER club was too big, so he is showing loyalty to a team he played for for 5-6 years. I don't think WBA should show him as much animosity as they have as he gave them 100%.
Say for instance Man Utd. need a manager, should Roy Keane show loyalty to Ipswich or the team he played for for years; Rafael Benitez if Atletico came in for him; Arsene Wenger if the French job was available; or Trappatoni if he was wanted back in Italy.
John Hughes has went back to Hibs; Martinez back to Wigan and Steve Bruce back to his team Sunderland... Don't you think in the dressing room they were all asking for 100% and loyalty for the teams they were at?
If it all goes nipples up then fair do's you can laugh about it but Celtic Fans DO want to see attractive football, not just trophies. Tommy Burns won one trophy but the football was great to watch - Even Doc Joe's football was good. Why do you think wee Chesney was never taken to 100%? Because he didn't play the Style we want to see - That's what Celtic Minded means.

  10. #83 Dont remember ANY of the names you mention telling his players to show loyalty then feck off, which is what Mowgli did,but if you want a two faced back stabbin judas in charge at your club then good luck yo you

  11. #82 I agree kenny is a far better coach than ally could ever hope to be,but the point bout mowgli is your leader should lead by example, which he didn`t ,so much for club loyalty,is this the man you want at the helm?He signed more than a few donkeys at wba and by all accounts most of them want to come with him,do you want a team filled with relegation experts?,its all very well saying he played "attractive" football but if that doesnt win you games it doesnt win you points or titles.Do you want to play "attractive" football or win?

  12. Yeah wee licky-slavery is a good coach... He straps seats to his back and has Parks of Hamilton tattooed on his forehead...
We didn't get upset when Martin O'Neill left even though it came out that he supposedly signed some sort of deal with LUFC before Villa even came knocking. Managers move on and you just get on with it.
Did the Rangers board show any loyalty with Le Guen? Did Waller show any loyalty when he left for Everton? Or when he dumped the Scotland job like a hot Jobby? Has big Yoggi shown any loyalty to Falkirk when Hibernian showed some interest. Like big Yoggi showing Loyalty to his real Team - His First Team - Big Tony has shown Loyalty to Celtic for how we treated him when he played for us... Just like Waller did when he went back to Ibrox.

  13. He made that statement for the sake of the club...not himself as Celtic had not even approached him then.....in a years time if Tony moves then like this year we will find a replacement.....Do you think Ally is the answer when Wattie goes?.....My info is that McDowall is 20 times the coach Ally is

  14. Stuart, the point I was making was Mowgli told his players to show some loyality to the club then he turns round & back stabs the club, hardly leading by example is it?What you gonna do in a years time if Mowgli gets a better offer and does the same to you,you still gonna hold him in high regard?I doubt it

  15. Metz...u said that u would not ask your fellow workers to show loyalty ( meaning that you are not loyal) and then say that loyalty is not a thing that the Celtic fans know about...is that not a contradiction?????
