Moore backs McInnes for Baggies boss

Tue, 16 Jun 18:59:30 2009

Former West Brom defender Darren Moore believes Derek McInnes would be the ideal candidate to replace Tony Mowbray as manager.

St Johnstone boss McInnes and Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson, who has led the club to successive promotions, are believed to be amongst the leading candidates to take over at the Hawthorns after Mowbray's switch to Celtic.

Moore said: "Derek would be a top class appointment and I'm not just saying that because I played alongside him."

He added: "I've played with a lot of footballers but Derek was special.

"Darren Ferguson's stock is already high and he's already being talked about with some jobs in the Premier League.

"Derek isn't at that stage but he brings a freshness that players can relate to which may work in his favour over the long term.

"People shouldn't look upon his inexperience as a bad thing - if anything it's the opposite. Derek is a no-nonsense character. He was a great inspiration and I'm sure he will make a great manager."

Former Blackburn manager Paul Ince has already declared his interest in taking over at Albion.

The former England skipper had an unsuccessful spell at Blackburn but before that did well when cutting his managerial teeth at Macclesfield and MK Dons.

  3. To Kenneth K ... get a grip man ... "traitors like mobray" ??? What??? It is a business that entertains, that's the bottom line. Can you blame Tony for picking Celtic over WBA... come on... It's not personal it is just business...oh ya the reason WBA is in the positon it is in is because of this "stick by your team no matter what" mentality. If the chairman knows this, which he does because you clowns keep saying it, he will put out a product that is just enough to keep selling tickets that you sheep keep buying....Stop buying tickets, stop supporting and things will change...that is how we do it in North America...

  4. sorry agree no more ex baggie players as managers, we need a manager who can attract and convience quality players to sign, think our pratt of a chairman needs to ditch the wage cap and take a gamble - we got relegated by 3 points 1 win thats how close it was, as for paul robinson as a player contracted to the club i would sack him now afetr his comments about players following mowbray, he was one of the main reasons our defence suffered so no loss if he goes.
come on baggies get the right man in before preseason and get our act together we need to get us back in the premiership where we belong,

to jeremy peace...... stick with the priniciples established by the project. let us contniue to l ive the dream. winning through entertaining, stability from youth, growing together, enjoyment and laughter.
