Muller sheds a tear for Tykes

Tue 16 Jun, 03:32 PM

Heinz Muller has spoken of his sadness following his decision to quit Barnsley and return home to Germany with newly-promoted FSV Mainz.

But the 31-year-old, who has signed a three-year deal with the Bundesliga side, could not turn down the chance to play in the German top flight.

Muller told the club's official website: "I have to say a big thank you to everybody at Barnsley Football Club and to the fans for what was a fantastic two years for me.

"The supporters have been magnificent to me during that time and I'm a little sad to leave them all behind.

"I have to thank the board and everybody at the club for making my time in England so enjoyable. I'm very sad to leave, but it is a big opportunity for me.

"Working with Simon Davey has been brilliant and I cannot thank him enough for everything he has done for me in the last two years. He has been great for me and is a very good person and I wish them all every success."
