Peace - Tony leaves with our best wishes

Tue 16 Jun, 05:17 PM

West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace will now turn his attention to finding a replacement for Tony Mowbray who ended weeks of speculation by signing a rolling 12-month contract with his former club.

Mowbray was given permission by Peace to open negotiations with the Parkhead club on Saturday after Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell eventually agreed to the Baggies' request for £2million compensation.

As expected, Mowbray agreed personal terms and will be joined in the east end of Glasgow by Mark Venus, his assistant at The Hawthorns, and Peter Grant, his first-team coach at Albion and a former Celtic team-mate.

Peace said: "Tony leaves with our best wishes for a successful future in football.

"We will now concentrate fully on the important task of appointing a new manager who can take the club forward.

"As we stated last week, we did not want to lose Tony nor did we encourage Celtic's approach. However, there was a compensation clause in Tony's contract which has been met to our satisfaction and, after talks with Celtic, Tony has decided to join them."

  1. Can't see Coppell being any use to us, he has had loads of jobs with little success.
Much of the blame for this fiasco lies with the Chairman. Not spending during the
window in previous years. Medling with squad trimming etc. Peace is a businessman and
not a supporter at the end of the day. Ferguson would be my choice or Ferguson and McInnes together.

  4. Do not panic do not pass go! We have all been here before.Osvaldo regrets his decision to leave us.Gary was pushed and saved us from sinking like Bushbury Town did in the eighties. Gary still speaks of us (the fans) from his heart.Ray Harford God bless him was a lovely man who also acknowledged that he should have stayed. I have been a season ticket holder for 50 years since the age of 5.Tony Mowbray will at some point realise that he was a privileged man to manage our club and i hope he is big enough to acknowledge that fact at some point in the future. The 3 biggest clubs in England in terms of loyal support (Trust me I am an old Git now)are us The Albion Sunderland & Portsmouth. Comments welcolmed. Derek Mccines & Michael Appleton?

  9. Disappointing decision, would have expected better from Mowbray, but we have had the same with other managers in the last 30 years. Lets clear out the dead
wood now, starting with full backs who cost 50,000 and have inflated opinions
about their ability. Up the Baggies.
