Southampton boss Mark Wotte set his sights on a Carling Cup run this season after being drawn at home to Northampton in the first round.
The League Two outfit, who are managed by ex-Saints player and boss Stuart Gray, will travel to St Mary's in early August.
"It's a nice fixture and I am happy to be playing Northampton Town," said Wotte.
"It's good to be able to welcome back someone with Southampton connections and it will be a good challenge that we can hopefully win.
"I am also pleased to have a home tie so early in the season, and I hope we can draw a big crowd to show the players our fantastic support.
"We have not done as well as we would have liked in the Carling Cup in recent seasons but this year it would be great to go on a run. Stuart Gray and his team will be taking it seriously too, though, so we will not underestimate them."

we can forget about cup runs....we are -10 points starting in the 3rd division. We need to concentrate only on winning all of our home games and at least half of our away games to give us automatic promotion, dont forget, we gotta work harder to get rid of the -10 points. So I would say, yes, silverware is always nice to get, but promotion is always sweeter. COYR
yes a good run ,,, around the pitch only ,,
