Barca still awaiting Eto'o offers

Wed 16 Jul, 10:15 PM

Barcelona director Txiki Begiristain says they have not received any formal offers for striker Samuel Eto'o, who is free to leave the Nou Camp.A host of sides, including Tottenham, have been linked with the prolific Cameroon international, while earlier this week Uzbekistan League side Kuruvchi claimed to have reached a deal to sign Eto'o and that the striker would arrive in Tashkent on Thursday.

However, speaking at Wednesday's presentation for new Barca signing Alexander Hleb, Begiristain said they had received "no formal offer" for Eto'o.

He added: "We hope that he arrives at an agreement with a club that he likes and negotiates with that club."

If Eto'o does not leave the club then Begiristain admits it could affect whether they bring a new striker in or not.

Barca have been linked with the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, David Villa, David Trezeguet, Karim Benzema and Dimitar Berbatov this summer.

"It is one of the possibilities, because we would not like to find ourselves with four centre-forwards. His exit affects the arrival of another striker," Begiristain was quoted as saying in Spanish newspaper Sport.

Barca president Joan Laporta added: "We have a very good relationship with Eto'o and his representative. We will do our best for the club and the player."

  4. Its always this way for Barca, take the players, use them and dump them without any sense of pride left in them. How could you describe players who has been with you for alwost 5yrs, helped win important trophies with the club as 'unwanted'? That is what Barca does to Eto'o, Ronnie, and Deco, important figures who helped restore the image of Barca after a string of poor seasons. They did this same thing to Rivaldo, and I guess there were other players who had similar experience but I am not old enough to know them.I hope Barca will begin to treat players as respectfully as AC Milan does. As a Barca fan, what we really need in our team after all these signings is a very good goalkeeper, not VALDES! A keeper who is not only agile and great, but can organise the defense.Valdes is not one.

  7. He's already said he doesn't want to come to Spurs so we shouldn't even entertain the idea of getting him. The last thing we need is another jumped up so called 'superstar' that thinks they're too good for the club.
