McNamee completes Pilgrims switch

Wed 16 Jul, 03:15 PM

Plymouth Argyle boss Paul Sturrock has completed the free-transfer signing of Scotland international David McNamee on a two-year contract. The versatile defender was released by Championship rivals Coventry at the beginning of the summer.

McNamee, 27, was released by the Sky Blues after failing to earn a new contract at the Ricoh Arena following a season blighted by injuries last term.

But Sturrock admitted he was delighted at having finally captured a player he has tried to sign in the past.

"I've tried to sign him a couple of times," Sturrock told the club's official website. "He's a very versatile defender, who can play in several positions and he's very quick.

"He has played for Scotland and for Blackburn and was doing very well for Coventry before he had a few injury problems, and is a very good footballer. He definitely brings another dimension to our squad and I am really looking forward to working with him."

  1. Plymouth have got themselves a very good player in McNamee - if he can keep himself fit, he could be a big boost for Argyle.
