Southend striker Alex Revell, who struggled with injury after arriving from Brighton in January, is determined to prove his worth this season. The 24-year-old is hoping to show the Shrimpers fans what he can do and earn a regular first-team place - even though he is currently struggling with a groin problem.
He told the club's official website: "Pre-season has been good. It's been hard, but you don't expect anything else from pre-season.
"The boys have all been working hard and all the new lads that have come in have bonded well with everyone. We have a great bunch of lads here and the gaffer and all the coaches just want to help you learn.
"I'm settled at Southend now and we all want to go that step further this season. I don't think that I was anywhere near where I want to be at because of restrictions, but now I just want to be able to play and show people what I can do.
"I want to get the goals that I know I can score, but if I keep training as hard as I am and keep playing in friendlies, then hopefully that will just come back to me and I can prove to people what I'm about."
