Us stadium move nears completion

Colchester United are a step closer to moving into their new stadium after the Borough Council took possession of the development.The club will start to move from Layer Road into the Weston Homes Community Stadium later this week with a view to being in their new home by Monday.

Construction company Barr are set to remain on site for the next few days to complete external ground works at the site ahead of the first public event at the stadium on July 26.

Councillor Lyn Barton, portfolio holder for planning and regeneration, said: "The completion of the Weston Homes Community Stadium is the culmination of a tremendous deal of effort by all the partners.

"The facility is a fantastic high quality landmark building for Colchester which with the ability to be used and enjoyed by a wide variety of residents and visitors will be a great advertisement for the borough and the region."
