Wed 16 Jul, 10:45 AM

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has backed Gills captain Andrew Crofts to make a big impression in League Two this season.Stimson confirmed the 24-year-old Wales midfielder would retain the captain's armband last week, with Mark Bentley taking on the mantle of club captain.

And the Gills boss believes Crofts has the attributes to be a big star as the club looks to win promotion back to League One.

He said: "If he's on his game he should rip this division up.

"He's got everything, he's a fantastic athlete, he's got a bit of skill in him, he's got an eye for goal so we expect big things of Croftsy this year and I'm sure he does of himself."

Meanwhile, the Gills were beaten 1-0 by Stimson's former club Stevenage in their first game of pre-season, with Steve Morison scoring the only goal after 54 minutes.
