Michael Schumacher has added his shining endorsement to the rising star of German countryman Sebastian Vettel.
As it becomes more and more likely that the on-form 21-year-old Toro Rosso driver will move up to the senior Red Bull team in 2009, retired Schumacher said: "He has everything a future winner in F1 needs."
Vettel's current team's co-owner Gerhard Berger added to the news agency SID: "The boy will become a big name."
With a more sober appraisal of Vettel's form, however, is American stock car driver Scott Speed, who was unceremoniously ousted by Toro Rosso last year, and replaced by the German.
"I have known Sebastian since he was a boy," 25-year-old Speed said in an interview with the Dutch magazine Formule 1 Race Report.
"He is a good driver and I wish him all the best. As a driver you need to be in the right place at the right moment, and at the moment he has that.
"He has of course been a bit lucky as well. All of his good results he achieved in the rain, and always with the right strategy by the team," Speed added.

Im sorry Mr Mario but Vettel has got future champion written all over him. I watched him at race of champions last year in wembley and he was outstanding, he was the reason Germany won the nations cup, not god himself Schumacher. Speed on the other hand, well its amazing how were only half way through the 2008 championship and still most people forgot he even drove in last years championship.
Speed just sees him as another driver and one who replaced him. He does have angle view that few have of the situation. He says Vettel has been Lucky, well don't the good ones set themselves up for luck and make the most of it? Vettel has done much better than Speed and could make it to a top team in the coming years.
I don't think Speed was a top driver but what about the likes of Kyle Busch (NASCAR Cowboy) in a F1 seat? How do you think he would compare to a Vettel or Sebastien Bourdais? I think he would able to beat Bourdais.
You think that Speed was better than Vettel?! Are you mad?
I don't think he is bitter.
I, myself do not hold anything of this little wannabe waterhead Zettel.
Speed was way better.
And for me, someone else from the German drivers is the future champion. ADRIAN SUTIL!
Not Bitter then Mr Speed?
