Barcelona sporting director Txiki Begiristain insists the club have not received any formal offer for striker Samuel Eto'o, who has been told he can leave the Nou Camp.
A host of sides have been linked with the Cameroon international, while earlier this week Uzbekistan League side Kuruvchi claimed to have reached a deal to sign Eto'o and that the striker would arrive in Tashkent on Thursday.
However, speaking at Wednesday's presentation for new Barca signing Alexander Hleb, Begiristain said they had received "no formal offer" for Eto'o.
He added: "We hope that he arrives at an agreement with a club that he likes and negotiates with that club."
If Eto'o does not leave the club then Begiristain admits it could affect whether they bring a new striker in or not.
Barca have been linked with the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, David Villa, David Trezeguet, Karim Benzema and Dimitar Berbatov this summer.
"It is one of the possibilities, because we would not like to find ourselves with four centre-forwards. His exit affects the arrival of another striker," Begiristain was quoted as saying in Spanish newspaper Sport.
Barca president Joan Laporta added: "We have a very good relationship with Eto'o and his representative. We will do our best for the club and the player."

laporta started well, bringing in ronnie, sam, deco and so on,but it seems he is loosing his mind, head, brain, body and soul.to hell with him and his new signings
the Baca managment sell this good guys cos they are really gredy.how the hell you want to sell Eto, then buy some cheap and good for nothing players that haven't been able to find their feet in the world of soccer.you better rethink or the baca managment will go down for good.Eto remains the best sriker in the world.
I think it is time he moves on he has become some what stale, a move to the EPL would show how good he really is
Back is sick, when one is sick every good food taste bitter...
someone tell where Uzbekistan is found on the globe...
is that a country, village, or a street somewhere ???
they must be insane to have their eyez on Sam.
someone tell me what the f&%k is wrong with the barcelona management!!
with Deco,Ronnie and even the young Dos Santos gone!! barcelona management have replaced dese with half baked players...(who is Hleb compared to Ronnie?)...and now they wana sell Eto'!
i wonder if they even qualify for the Champions league...
to hell with the whole team!
somebody please sack Laporta! Ronnie out Hleb in?! no such balance at all yet still wanted to sell Eto'o. if really happens, only D.Villa can fill such blank, not even Torres, or Ade..who?!
Barca without Eto'o Ronaldhino and Rijkaard will do nothing!
He is being sold cause of his lack of respect and was causing a divide in the dressing room.Barca fan till i die but if it is done to unite the team once more i am all for it.
I have been thinking the same daily for ages. Ronnie was not being hungry but can't help being sad. I didn't want Deco to leave for another year then bring Cesc in... I was happy with what Laporta had done for the club but to see them suddenly cut the heads of the best team ever to have existed in the history of football at club level makes me really really worried. I mean .. Dos Santos... Deco.. Ronaldinho.. sold .. in : Hleb ( I take Keita as a DM and so I see only one replacement if he can be called that ) for three prolific and talented midfieldrs.. W T F ???
And to get rid of Etoo , which for the past 5 yrs has been the best striker in the world and whom right now only Torres is a true replacment for... I just am thinking W T F ?!!?? We've lost the league title two years runnign to an inferior team and we lost the final ticket to CL this year to an ultradefensive, counter-attacking inferior team (MU)... and they do this... Where is the sporting logic? Not to mention they sell them to direct rivals (Milan, Chelsea) for bargain prices jeeeeeeezzzuz.... :/ It just makes one shake one's head ... :/
Dont be stupid selling Eto'o, it would be an awful decision irrespective of how much we'd get from his sale, he's been our top goal scorer in La Liga for the past 2 or 3 years, why sell such a prolific striker??!!!!!
