Paul Scharner has insisted he is in no hurry to sign a new deal with Wigan.
The Austrian joined the Latics from SK Brann in January 2006 and has gone on to make 78 appearances for the club.
He will be out of contract next summer and manager Steve Bruce is keen for him to put pen-to-paper on a new agreement.
Bruce explained earlier this week that he was 'closer' to securing Scharner's services on a long-term deal.
Scharner admits he has been in contact with Bruce but does not believe it is especially vital to sort the situation out quickly.
"I can say there's nothing new," he told the Wigan Observer.
"We're still in touch and speak about it. I have time."
Scharner finished last season as Wigan's Player of the Year after Bruce switched him from midfield to central defence.
