Vela Ready For Gunners Impact

Wed 16 Jul, 10:09 AM

Mexican teenager Carlos Vela has set his sights on being a 'warrior' for Arsenal in the new season.

In May, Vela was granted clearance to play for The Gunners in the 2008/09 campaign following three separate loan spells in Spain.

And the 19-year-old forward believes the time he spent abroad will ensure he hits the ground running when he finally begins his career at Emirates Stadium.

"My stay in Spain helped me to make the jump to the Premier League," Vela told Mexican news agency Notimex. "Now, I am stronger on the field and more mature.

"I am not scared of the Premier League - I will train hard and fight for a chance in the Arsenal squad. I want to be a warrior for the team.

"I'm not thinking about failure. I'm happy to be here and I just want to help the team."

  1. virtually unknown? you are very funny indeed.
fabregas was in the Barcelona youth system before moving to arsenal. thats the barcelona youth system, not derby county youth system.
arsenal tried to sign ronaldo before man utd did, as i'm sure many other clubs did. not to mention he was already playing for a quality Portuguese team
rooney has been in the premier league with everton before moving to man utd. he played in euro 2004 before moving to man utd and has the record for the highest transfer fee paid for a teenager.

    virtually unknown?

  2. We mustnt forget the young talent Arsene has... some (in my opinion) should get thrown in the deep end more often. Great players always shine through from young... look at Fabregas, Ronaldo, Rooney, and Messi.... All players who were virtually unknown.. but due to their exceptional talents at young ages... have managed to be on that path to fantastic careers.. I say throw Theo in there up front with van persie(provided hes not a sick note this season!) and sell Adebayor.. Theo seems a better finisher anyway!Get Denilson involved, when hes come on ..hes been fantastic! Aaron Ramsey is definitely also capable of hitting the ground running...
