Former Real Madrid boss Vicente del Bosque was named as the new coach of the Spanish national team to replace Luis Aragones who led them to Euro 2008 glory last month.
"The president of the Spanish football federation Angel Maria Villar proposed the nomination of Del Bosque to the executive committee which was accepted," said a RFEF spokesman.
"He will be presented on Thursday at 1315 (1215 BST)."
The 57-year-old Del Bosque will take charge of his first match on August 20 when Spain face Austria in a friendly international in Copenhagen.
His first competitive game will be a 2010 World Cup qualifier against Bosnia in Murcia on September 6.
The 69-year-old Aragones was not offered a new deal with Spain despite delivering a first title for the soccer-mad nation since 1964 with victory over Germany in the Euro 2008 final.
He has since signed a two-year contract to coach Turkish club Fenerbahce.

I am from India. and I am sad that many people there are not aware about club football. their knowlege is limited to Santhosh trophy and may be the World Cup. I too came too late to know about club especially the one in Europe. My altime favourite team is Real Madrid and when I started watching Real Madrid, Mr. Vincent was the coach. Even though he won many for Real Madrid I wondered why he was removed from the position. I was fortunate to watch somem wonderful matches during 2000-2002. many good players in the team at that time, Roberto Carlos, Figo, Zidane, Raul, Heiro, Salgado, Anelka, Ivan Capo, Gutty, Morites Casilas and man y more. After sacking I did not hear anything about Vincent and I am delighted he is the coach for Spain. He is the best coach, a calm quiet man, I wish him all the success. I urge all the Indians not only watch cricket but find some time to watch club footabll, especially the European and I recomment, watch Spanish League.
Sunny
Bosque should make sure Fabregas is made a key man in Spain's squad, else he will be booted out.
message 7. what do you feed on? I have a son with down syndrome..but that doesn't give anyone the right to trample my rights. masoni
Big mistake to change a winning team, however, best replacement of Del Bosque and all the best to 2008 euro champs.kanyika-wa-kanyika.
Best manager in Spain, cant understand why he has not been snapped up by a club before now, perhaps he was waiting for this job, have a bet on Spain to win the next World Cup.

message 7 - why should 'having a son with Down Syndrome' be a reason to have sacked Del Bosque? Are you taking the p*ss? I know of work colleagues that have children with learning difficulties and disabilities and they have held their jobs down - no problem.
Del Bosque was for sure perfect coach for Real. Unfortunately, politics was stronger than sense and football. With all do respect to Queiroz , he was like elephant in the store. I wish all the luck for Vincent. And, yeah, Raul is world class player. Aragones was "building" his authority on Raul. His explanation that he won't take Raul in squad because he never won anything is for retards. What about other Spain players (Puyol, Xavi...)? O yeah, they won everything. The truth is Aragones hates Real and Real's players...
del Bosque is under-rated. He is one of the best Real coach ever.
its all good,as far as spain keep producing good football
Philliec, Del Bosque was sacked because he lacked certain qualities that the Real Madrid president at the time would have liked him not to have:
1. He's bald and has a double chin (Queiroz is good looking and elegant).
2. He's slightly lame.
3. He has a son with Down Syndrome.
4. He generally keeps a low profile.
I think he was an excellent coach for Real Madrid and I hope he does a good job with the Spanish National Team. But if you want to sell a lot of jerseys then you need to look for someone with other characteristics, for instance David Beckham (not as a coach, of course--Victoria can take care of that department).
If I had to rank Raśl from 1 to 10 as a player for Real Madrid I'd give him a 9. If I had to rank him as a player for Spain I'd give him a 4. Bring him on the team again and you can bet your money that Spain will be out of the 2010 World Cup at the quarterfinals or sooner. Had he been present in Austria, Italy would most likely have made it to the semifinal. Raśl is no good at penalty shots.
This is the man that made me love real madrid and i hopes he makes spain even better. All the best big man.
!@@@@@@Recently, quite a fewcelebrities and pro athletes were said to appear on the millionaire luxury club ~~~+kissmillionaires.CoOm ~~~OMG!!! Are these famous guys fond of internet dating for now?? Maybe they are indeed so rich that they feel boring sometimes to need new things?!
philliec, we're one the same page, del bosque is an excellent coach. ok, so after leaving Real he didn't achieve much, but I still hold him in high esteem for managing a great Real back in the Figo-Raul-Morientes era. and i believe that, had he stayed with the club after the galactic acquisitions, he would have been the one to keep all
those big-name asteroids on their course after Beckham, Zidane, Ronaldo weighed the Real ship down.
too bad they didn't renew aragones' contract when they still had the chance, but that's squarely on the Spanish Federation's shoulders.
now, is del Bosque a good choice for the newly crowned European champions? we can conjecture all we want but this question will only be answered when push comes to shove and we'll start qualifiers for the Worlds. the team is honed,as long as he doesn't mess too much with the lineup, there is no reason for him not to succeed.
a winning formula can't win ad infinitum.
take care
BIG MISTAKE from the spanish why would you change a winning formula??? should have given aragones a pay rise not the boot! bad mistake will be backing argentina to win world cup now
Donde esta la telephono ?
Excellent choice!
Del Bosque should never have been sacked from Madrid all those years ago. In part, that decision lead to the maliase of Madrid up until last season. (Of course, having a shoddy manager like Qunieroz didn't help either!)
It will be interesting to see how things go forward, and whether the likes of Raul will get a shout now. Although, while it would be great to see Raul back in the team, how do you fit him into that attack is where the question marks are.
