Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has reaffirmed his commitment to the Reds after speculation in the press claimed he was considering quitting the club.
The reports alleged the Spaniard decided to resign after being told by co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett that they would not provide the money required to sign Gareth Barry from Aston Villa.
The 28-year-old midfielder was thought to be close to a £18million move to Anfield only for the club's American owners to pull the plug on the deal.
Chief executive Rick Parry released a statement which stated the club considered the asking price for Barry being "too high" and the issue has overshadowed preparations for their opening Barclays Premier League clash against Sunderland.
But despite the Barry situation, and his frosty relationship with Parry, the Spaniard reiterated his commitment to remain with the Reds.
"I am not thinking of leaving," he told the club's official website
"My commitment with the club, the fans and the players is so big that just because I can be disappointed about different things I won't stop trying my best to achieve all of the targets that we have established as a team.
"My family and myself are very thankful to the club, the fans and the city and we will never give up fighting to get the best for Liverpool."

bad for loserpool....but good for others..
rafa don't leave for another 3-4 years and it will be enough for loserpool's downfall..
Wardster...or better stil get a MANAGER who, like Wenger, knows how to get his players to perfrom on the field.
Rafa not leaving? What makes him think he'll have a choice in the matter?
it should have been 6 nil! we could have had another 5 against sunderland- but keano was in the right place at the wrong time and stood on Fernando's toe- xabi missed a xabi special- Gerra smacked two against two moving walls and l'il Yosi was denied a stonewall penalty!!! they never even looked like scoring. as the great Ruud Gullit often said- two fast a tempo in the first half- leaves nothing for the killer last 15 minutes...basic stuff really. bad coaching up at Sunderland. Calm down black cats- save something for the last fifteen in the prem or you'll be slaughtered all season.
why the hell is our manager being short changed by the yanks ? and why is rick parry so blind as to see we will never win the league while the manager is ham strung by stupidity ? I despair when i see my team which i have supported for over 60 years being run so badly.
could have been worse. we could have been bought by shinawatra. look at the mess city are in now
who cares how old barry is, he aint worth that money, the yanks were right to pull the plug on the deal, what amazes me is that they sanctioned the same money for keane who in my opinion aint worth the money either. cattle rapists should sell up and parry should do the right thing and resign
It is not Benitez's fault we got took over by to Americans who have no money to spend on the club and can't even talk to each other so what chance have we got. Please sell to someone who wants the best for Liverpool Football Club so we can challenge Utd Chelsea and Arsenal. We have only spent 10 million this season on players that wont make much differenc to the team and need to be spending 3 times that to keep up with the top 3 Please Please Please sell the club.
I keep reading Barry is 28, he's actually only 27.
