Bordeaux Fall To PSG Defeat

Sat 16 Aug, 11:09 PM

Bordeaux, expected to be Lyon's closest challengers this season, slipped to a surprise defeat at Paris St Germain on Saturday.

Guillaume Hoarau scored the only goal of the game - and the capital club's first of the season - in the 52nd minute and although Bordeaux tried their hardest they could not find a way past an impressive Mickael Landreau in the PSG goal.

That result allowed Monaco to shoot to the top of Ligue 1 thanks to a 1-1 draw at newly-promoted Nantes.

Camel Meriem got the visitors off to the perfect start when he headed home in the fifth minute, but Claudiu Keseru pounced shortly after the hour mark to claim a point for an impressive Nantes side.

Les Monegasques are now a point clear of defending champions Lyon who play Lorient on Sunday, while Nantes deservedly took their first point of the campaign.

Le Mans are one of the many teams on three points after they bounced back from their opening day defeat to record a comfortable 3-1 win at Lille.

After going down 1-0 at home to Lorient last weekend, Le Mans got off the mark as Thortein Helstad and Modibo Maiga put them in control by half-time.

Although Michel Bastos got one back for Lille in the 64th minute, Maiga's second eight minutes from time made sure of the points for the visitors.

Caen also won 3-1 as they produced a blistering opening half-an-hour to blow Valenciennes away.

Nicolas Florentin gave the hosts the perfect start in the second minute and Steve Savidan and Eduardo Eluchans also scored inside the opening 30 minutes as Caen bounced back from their opening-day defeat to Bordeaux.

Filip Sebo pulled a goal back for the visitors before half-time, but that was the only one of a host of chances they were able to make count as they dominated the second half.

Mahamane Traore's first Ligue 1 goal saw Nice snatch a last-gasp victory against Nancy.

Loic Remy gave the hosts the lead shortly after the half-hour mark, but Nantes went in at half-time on level terms as Benjamin Gavanon fired home from the penalty spot seconds before the interval.

And it looked like it would end honours even at the Stade Municipal du Ray before Traore pounced in the final minute.

A late goal also ensured Toulouse took all three points as Andre-Pierre Gignac's free-kick completed a remarkable comeback after they had fallen behind to Le Havre.

Gignac scored the winner with two minutes remaining to prevent the visitors from building on their opening day victory last weekend.

Daniel Congre had levelled the scores in the 62nd minute after Amadou Alassane's 10th minute opener.

Elsewhere, first-half goals from Blaise Matuidi and Pascal Feindouno secured a first win of the season for St Etienne as they triumphed 2-1 at home to Sochaux.

Matuidi scored the opener after 10 minutes before Feindouno doubled the hosts' advantage from the penalty spot just eight minutes later.

Damien Perquis ensured a nervous finish when he pulled one back after 75 minutes, but Laurent Roussay's men managed to hold on for maximum points.
