David Beckham's time at the Los Angeles Galaxy continues to grow sour as he was sent off in his side's 2-0 defeat to the Seattle Sounders.
The former England captain was given a straight red card for a tackle on Sounders midfielder Peter Vagenas in the 17th minute.
Beckham was booed off the field but he insists there was no maliciousness involved.
"Pete is one of my best friends," he told the club's website.
"I think it is a hard tackle but not with means for a red card.
"I've never gone in one tackle wanting to hurt someone. The referee saw it differently."
Beckham has had a hard time back in America since returning from a successful loan spell at Milan.
On his arrival in LA he was embroiled in a row with team-mate Landon Donovan over comments the USA striker made in a book called 'The Beckham Experiment' which questioned the Englishman's commitment to the Galaxy.
And he was twice involved in confrontations with fans during his first three games back in a Galaxy shirt.
The 34-year-old is likely to seek a repeat of his loan spell with Milan from January to May this year when his stint with the Galaxy comes to an end as he bids to figure in Fabio Capello's England squad for next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa.

he is doing all this @#$% on purpose the fighting with fans the sending off etc so that galaxy get rid of him what selfish dis-loyal git
Pete is his best friend; I expect Uri Geller is too!
Beckham can't put up with the truth, he's getting too old now, not as fast and his long balls in seem to wain more, perhaps he needs to retire. Otherwise he needs to get out of America before trouble takes him.
Becks.. u can't do anything outside England.. just come back home.. but.. ur age is a bit too old.. most BPL club dun want u anymore.... where should u go then..?? may b Leeds or.. go back to erikkson.. :P
In the first half of last week's friendly against Holland, Beckham was the best player on the pitch by a mile. Even the brain-dead Beckham haters must have noticed this. The reporters and TV Pundits certainly noticed the quality in his performance and let's face it, the game was far from friendly with all of the players trying to impress their Managers.
Beckham is a no hoper. Always has been. Needs to do something about that nasty skin disease that's affecting both his arms.
The monkey is still making some noise ey.
Beckham cash in before it is too late. Your age will soon count against you
KEV... HIS ATTITUDE STINKS?
ARE U JOKING ME?
SO U DISAGREE WITH SIR ALEX FERGUSON, CAPPELLO AND ANCELLOTTI 3 OF THE BEST MANAGERS IN THE WORLD WHO SAID IT WAS A PLEASURE 2 WORK WITH BECKS.
COMING FROM A SCOTTISH RANGERS FAN.
leave beckham alone. all the players in the american league are not fit to clean his boots. the sooner he leaves the better from the yankie tossers.
If he was serious, he'd buy out his LA Galaxy contract and move to Milan, pronto.
As it is, he'll fall slowly into decline and obscurity...
Lawl Becks
Yeah right, Beck just want to have a next weekend off to fly to Milan for a possible loan deal, nice try Beck.
becks is a legend=fact and you dont need to know anything about football or be smart to figure that out so all haters can stfu. also in the american league the referees are as ***t as the most players are so they cant make good judging decisions so its obviously not his fault. all i want to say is beckham make biggest mistake ever coming to this bloody pakistani 56th division football(mls soccer i meant lol)
Pete is his best friend? Who the hell is pete... some random guy from a different team is his best friend. Interesting
Beckham can say anything and bend the truth, "pete is one of my best friends". how many best friends do you have?
All he can do is kick a free kick and get sent off and miss some penalties.
He can't run with the ball, he can't tackle and his attitude stinks. He isn't the player everyone seems to think he is, and he will never be a legend or one of the greatest. It's exactly him and others like him who are turning professional football into a joke.
whats the pont for pointing this article here. This is England we dont need to here about the business of some 3rd rate Football league.
Dale - NBA and NFL are @#$%e. You're arguing about a sport invented and pioneered by the English you muppet. At least we don't invent our own sport that none of the rest of the world plays just so we don't have to be humiliated by foreign sides. England haven't won the world cup since 1966....when did the US last win anything in football? Oh what you nearly won the Confederations Cup? Newsflash - no one cares about the Confederations Cup, or should I say no one but the Americans. Unfortunately, MLS is never going to be a big league, because football is not a big sport in your country. Put down your bats, basketballs and hockey sticks and join the rest of the sophisticated sporting world.
There once was a sporting gent who lived in the wilds of the back of beyond who tatooed his arms and he ended up in Duffy's Circus
