POKER Poker Race Trophy - 0

He stood in front of the luxury hotel near the Brands Hatch circuit and could barely contain his excitement.

The flight from Germany to Britain was his first ever flight, and he could hardly wait to be sky high again - and it was only the start of a spectacular weekend.

For Schooter69, this was the furthest away from home that he had ever been!

The 39-year-old guard from the German town of Gelsenkirchen qualified for the Poker Race Trophy via the Freerolls at fun.PokerRoom.com.

For him, this was an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience pure luxury and racing action and to be in with a chance of winning big at the poker tables in front of live television cameras.

There didn't even seem to be enough time for Schooter69 to express his thanks for the Poker Race Trophy weekend and all its VIP treatment.

The chance to play poker in the semi-final directly at the race track of one of six WTCC races. The chance to play poker in front of live television cameras and to be star in a one-hour episode of the poker programme on Eurosport.

The chance to play poker with VIP passes and to enjoy all the privileges available when you're at the race track. Top-notch nightlife without having to break the bank. Playing poker for the chance to sit at the massive $500,000 final table in Vienna on 29th November - this is the Poker Race Trophy.

The poker table at Brands Hatch in England brought together more international representation than any of the other semi-finals.

On his way out of the hotel lobby, 6'3 Danish handball player Consaul1 could hardly believe his eyes.

Directly in front of the hotel, in the middle of the English countryside, there it was: a 30 foot stretch limousine, with the green fun.PokerRoom.com branding plastered on its side. It was clear that the journey into Britain's famous nightlife was about to begin.

Consaul1 sat inside the 8-person limousine and watched as passers-by stopped and stared at this out-of-the-ordinary vehicle. This was the perfect photo opportunity. With a champagne glass in his hand, the young business student from Skive told us of his previous poker experience. He'd already been to the WSOP and taken part in quite a few live events in Danish casinos.

His name was Funkfish - a name he had chosen because he worked in his father's fish shop as a child - and he was already enjoying the atmosphere in the luxury restaurant. He came from Banbury. 40-year-old Funkfish's main job at the time was looking after his 15-month-old son Charlie.

As a fan of motorsports, he was particularly looking forward to his visit to the race track and discussed the possible outcome of the WTCC race. He was also looking forward to putting his 10 years worth of poker experience to the test at the poker table - but before that, it was time for a delicious dinner!

Once they got to the race track, the poker players made their way forward towards the screaming tyres and roaring engines. Even Gregxxxl who, up until now, had been a little quiet, began to come out of his shell. The Frenchman from Saint Renan is a care-worker for elderly people. But as responsible as his job might be, there was no way he was going to take it easy at the poker table. His goal was simple: to bring the Poker Race Trophy home.
