Italian Grand Prix winner Sebastian Vettel has rubbished claims that he could be Formula One's new Michael Schumacher.
The Toro Rosso driver, who became the youngest winner of an F1 race when he took the chequered flag at Monza, has been dubbed 'Baby Schumi' by the German media but has described the reports "ridiculous".
"To compare me with Michael Schumacher is just a bit ridiculous," Vettel said. "Obviously I'm very young and at a very early stage of my career, but therefore I think there's no need to make a comparison.
"He's probably one of the best drivers we have ever seen. I'm proud, in a way, because I know him. He's a very nice guy and completely down to earth."
The 21-year-old German also insisted that Toro Rosso are a big team in the Formula One world despite not having the manpower or resources to match the likes of Ferrari or McLaren.
"I won't go to Singapore and feel like a hero and the superstar and expect another race win just like that - it's not going to be like that," Vettel said.
"I have been in similar situations in the past - obviously not in Formula One - and, obviously a normal race is difficult for us to win and repeat this kind of result, with pole position and victory, but we will fight.
"In the end you still have to get the job done. People have seen now and we have underlined in the last couple of races that we are a strong package going towards the end of the season, so I hope that we can score some more points.
"Going into the top 10, last qualifying, I think is still a big success for us as well."

"Vettel dismisses Schumi comparisons" this article is about Vettel! Why are you people talking about Hamilton here?
As has been repeated here, Sebastian is a true delight to support in a sport that only seems to produce petulant primadonnas at the top (if we're lucky). I've been looking at his record this season, and it's got to be admitted: He's done a miraculous job with a revamped Minardi. I won't wax lyrical any more than I have to about his sterling qualities outside the track, but I don't think we ever have to worry about this rainmeister getting a big head and bringing disrepute to the sport I love.
PS: There are plenty of Hamilton articles! Could the usual suspects please conform to posting etiquette and stick to the topic, or at least pretend to discuss the article before mentioning Hamilton? Jeez! The fans are just like the driver - moronic.
arshad: I have no idea who Hamilton voted for, my bet though it wasn't Alonso. All I know is 13 of the drivers on the grid voted for him, and every racing & test driver voted except for Alonso and those working for Ferrari - although it was never specified why these people never had a say, but we can probably guess.
And a real racing fan takes Moss seriously because he came second 4 years in a row and was beaten by Mike Hawthorn by 1 point in 1958 (Moss' fourth year in F1) and in his first THREE years in F1 he came second to a true racing god of the time, the truly great Juan Manuel Fangio. To be second to Fangio is nothing to be ashamed of. And Moss also still holds the record for the most dangerous and difficult high speed race ever run, the 1000 mile Mille Miglia open road race, in a timr of 10hrs 7mins 48sec.
And as for Vivian Senna, she compares Hamilton to her brother by saying he is "a good man", and that kind of contradicts some of the personal attacks he gets on these pages.
These people know Hamilton and F1 better than we do, their opinions count for a lot more than the bile that gets regurgitated by certain parties on these pages and should be listened to. To ignore them makes those people more arrogant than the man they choose to attack with that same accusation.
its not polite to compare sebastian to cheating schumacher
Vettel is a shelf above him
Lauda, Schumi and Brawn's comment about Hamilton are valid but how can Vivian Senna, who has never driven a F1 car, judge Hamilton's skill? And why take Moss seriously, he has never been champion so obviously he didn't have what it takes to be a champ

13 of the drivers voted Hamilton as the driver of the year. Who did Hamilton vote for?

Anon: I'm a Hamilton fan but I agree with you; the one stop strategy Hamilton was on simply proved not efficient given the weather. Well, half-efficient, since he did gain 8 places, but he would have had to be really lucky to get on the podium.
By the way, concerning his qualifying: why didn't he simply run on extreme tires during the second session and go for intermediates in the last one? Once you're in the top ten you can take more risks, and you already have two sessions providing information about whether extreme tires are still the way to go. I like it when they're taking risks, but not when the risk greatly outweighs the expected gain. Bad qualifying strategy with mediocre racing strategy. I hope these won't cost Hamilton the title since his attacking moves were quite something in this race, and I enjoy his driving style a lot.
Gotta love Sebastian Vettel. I'm so surprised I didn't spot him earlier in the season, but everything about him - particularly his personality - says "Winner". Definitely be looking out for him in future races.
Why does this pr!ck sagittarius1958 keep saying "Hamilton who?" sagittarius1958 sounds like a fr!ckin moron: he seems to have a lot to say about someone he doesnt know...
I can't wait to see him in a top car.
I've read absurd comments here and also from Hamilton in the press that had he selected Inters when he pitted the first time, he would have won the race. Had he selected the inters at that time, he would have driven just like he did in the qualifying which was dead last in Q2. The conditions at that time were suitable only for the extreme wet ones and using inters would have probably resulted in him crashing or by the end of the race, his tyres would have been shot so much he wouldn't have been able to drive fast at all. The idea was only good in theory but not practical at all. Hamilton and the british press should just be happy with his seventh place as this was the best he could do on this day.
Which of those people would you all like to disagree with first?
Vivian Senna (sister of F1's greatest legend) said of Lewis, "He reminds me of Ayrton as a pilot and also as a good man - we can see this in his eyes and his face."
Ross Brawn (the real saviour of Ferrari and the man who brought Schumi 5 world titles) said that watching him is "reminiscent of some of Michael's greatest drives".
A certain Michael Schumacher (7 times world champon) said he has to applaud Hamilton's "fantastic performances" on many occasions
Nikki Lauda (3 times world champion) said "He's on the right track and if he continues like this he's unbeatable" and that he reminded him of Ayrton Senna.
Lewis has also been spoken of with much regard by Stirling Moss (greatest driver to never win a title).
chris, tiffosi, sagitarius (and any other Hamilton Hater out there):
Last year Hamilton was voted the Drivers' Driver of the year with 13 votes out of 17 on the grid. The 3 who didn't vote were the two Ferrari drivers and a certain disgruntled teammate.
Hamilton who?
Oh, you mean the one who drove over everyone in front of him, the who runs others off the road in treacherous conditions, the one who slobbers all over about how great he is when he wins, the one who has had a silver spoon in his mouth for over 11 years, the one who has a bigger mouth than all the drivers on the grid combined?
Hamilton who? Never heard of him.
Maybe someday if he ever earns the respect he gives himself I may read of him, otherwise he's just another "squeaky clean" scumbag.
