Former Norwich forward Darren Huckerby is "99 per cent sure" he will retire following a hip injury suffered playing for San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS.
The ex-Lincoln, Newcastle, Coventry, Leeds and Manchester City player is a hero at Carrow Road after five successful years at the club that included promotion to the Premier League.
Huckerby, 33, left the Canaries a year ago, is out of contract in November and a hip operation has led him to call it quits.
"I've got to give it a chance to see how it is but I'm 99 per cent sure that I am done. The second part of my career starts now," he told the Eastern Daily Press.
"I'm one of those people who makes a decision and sticks to it. I'm content with what I have done in the game.
"I look at people like Dean Ashton who is struggling and who may have to retire having never fulfilled his potential.
"I look at where I started at the bottom of the third division and I have done everything that I have wanted to do in the game."

Sorry that should read would have. It's normal for Norfolk
GUTTED !!!!! A player who loves our club and we let him go. Damn you Roeder. I believe we had all hoped he would return in a playing capacity, especially in league 1 he would of tore the defences apart.
Mr Lambert get him back, just having him back at Carrow Road will give the whole club a boost.
Come home Hucks!!
get delia to cook him a nice pie as a thank you !
Darren was cool. Never had a chance to shine in the Premiership because defenders were scared of him and just used to hack him down.
Shame. Always a tricky opponent and seemed like a decent fella off the pitch too. Good luck to him!
We should have a testimonial for him at Carrow Road!
