Premier League - Adebayor hit with double charge

The FA have charged Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor with violent and improper conduct during the 4-2 Premier League win over visitors Arsenal.

"Under the fast-track disciplinary process, Adebayor has been charged with violent conduct following an incident with Robin van Persie, which resulted in the Arsenal player receiving facial injuries," the FA said.

"Adebayor has also been charged with improper conduct following his actions when turning and running the full length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Arsenal supporters after scoring."

Greater Manchester Police have written to the FA with their views on the incident at the City of Manchester stadium and a separate date will be arranged for a commission to consider Adebayor's goal celebration.

The Togo international, who joined City from Arsenal in July for an estimated £25 million, angered fans after what Van Persie described as a "mindless and malicious stamp" by Adebayor went unpunished.

"Referee Mark Clattenburg has advised the FA that he did not see this incident, but has confirmed that had he done so, he would have sent Adebayor off for violent conduct," the FA added.

Adebayor's goal celebration also sparked crowd trouble among Arsenal fans leading to a steward being injured and the FA have asked City and Greater Manchester Police to identify those supporters involved in any violent and aggravating behaviour, saying: "the FA would like to see anyone found guilty of such behaviour face action through the legal system and banning orders from football."

Adebayor has until 6pm on Wednesday to respond to the violent conduct charge, which carries an automatic three-match suspension.

The forward, who has scored in all four of unbeaten City's Premier League matches this season, has until September 30 to respond to the improper conduct charge, the City website said.

"The club is considering its position in relation to both matters," the Eastlands club added.

  1. Emmanuel Adebayor should be banned for the rest of the season and get some treatment, he is a monster thw way he injured a former colleague and then gauded the Arsenal suppoerters. For the record I am not a Man City or Arsenal supporter but another, that is not in the premier league, when I saw what he did and then after I was sickened, that is not football it is totally wroong and he should be banned until he has had some treatment.

  2. Hey what happened to the player that broke Eduardo's Ankle?
What happened to the player that tackled Luka Mudric of Spurs
What happened to Paul Scholes on all the players he has tackled

All this talk about Adebayor is becoming a very nonsense issue and a disgrace by the FA, all Arsenal fans, Arse Wenger.

  4. i think this guy has done what is right just to show them that is in form that is arsenal that does not know how to make effective use of him but to my utter dismay people are critizising his act.they arsenal rejected him because they believe is not performing.

  7. Lets face it all, Until RACISM is removed from Football and sports, things will never change, decisions will always be biased and unfair.

  8. For heavens sake who wants to blame the Arsenal fans? Can you remember the last time Adebayor played his heart out for Arsenal, the club that made him a star? This is simply the reason the fans wanted him out of the club; he simply was not performing and was constituting nuisance in the dressing room. You don't keep that kind of player in the clubs, you simply cash in on him. Even if you have scores to settle with anyone you don't do it in such a manner.

I THINK THE FA SHOULD RECOMMEND PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT FOR ADEBAYOR AND A 6 MATCH BAN.

  9. Dear Fellow Fans,
Let us not blow up this 'stumping and reckless celebration' thing sky high. It is enough to say that the player did not behave himself on that fateful Saturday. I am an Arsenal fan myself but I do not subscribe to Arsenal fans booing Adebayor simply because he changed camp. Remember Adebayor was not born at Emirates and could not be expected to die at Emirates. He, just like Van Persie or Beckham et al is a football player who has to earn a living anywhere on Earth. Whether Adebayor should be 'Adebayo', 'African', 'borg brush head' or any other thing is totally uncalled for and should be avoided and checked on this page. Let us try to always stay on course and avoid slunder and other racist ways of making our voices heard. Biziel Zikapanda, MALAWI.

  10. It is a shame that judgement are not being made on a level plain. Ade's actions were wrong and totally insane but give the guy a slack. Becham gave they Eglish fan the hand at the world cup for abuses directed towards his wife, he almost fought with a LA Galaxy fan and yet he is still idolised. But when someone expresses his feeling in a non-violent way it his condemned. I will urge Mark to fight this. I don't think there is any part of the pitch forbidden for players to celebrate. He didn't even make any gesture. he celebrated!!! what harm is in that. English fans shd grow, they expect some much from players and put them on an angelic platform whereas they are allowed to dine with the devil. the FA shd instruct clubs to speak with their fans and stop raining abuses on players.

  11. Players get paid thousands of pounds a week should therefore ignore away fans, play the game, do a good job for the club that is paying you thousands of pounds a week, not act like a petulant brat. As for the the delibrate act of violence on a FORMER TEAM MATE, take what is coming to you hopefully a decent ban and a dock of your wages, the so called celabration should have been towards the loyal City fans who contribute your extorinate wages every week not wasted on winding the Arsenal fans up. ADEBAYOR you are a disgrace, young kids watch you week in week out and this behaviour is what you are teaching them to be acceptable, well i for 1 dont think so.

  13. Van Persie could not have put it better, the way he celebrated the goal showed no class. If he doesnt run over to the fans then police would not have to investigate the violence that ensued. A footballer gets paid a vast amount, so if fans feel they should show how they feel then they should. Adebayor should've acted like a professional and what most ex players of a team do, celebrate with your colleagues and not by being the oaf that he is. Arsenal got £25m for a piece of @#$% anyway, wait until he stops scoring and it will be the city fans giving him an earful

  15. Although he deserver all he gets I suspect that the fast tracking of this has something to do with the fact that Citys next match is against the FA's favorited United & having him out for such an important game can only improve Uniteds chances of catching Chelsea who having already been stiched up by FIFA so if they dare to make any comment they will find themselves on a charge which can only help Uniteds cause even more

  16. I hope this makes Van Persie happy after all he set out to tackle hard and dirty on Adebayor from the start. Arsenal should be ashamed of themselves for allowing his statement to go on their web site, it was just there to inflame the situation and make sure Adebayor got punsihed. If the ref had seen VP 2 footed tackle before the incident it might've been a different story. Yes I am a City fan and yes I do believe he needed to be punished but Van Persie and the Arsenal fans should not get off with their incitement. To say people have acted professionally here is a joke and by that I mean Adebayor, Arsenal and Van Persie, they all need a long look at themselves.

  17. It is his choice where he wants to celebrate, if he wants to celebrate there he should be able to. If arsenal want to complain they should have not selt him.

  18. He should get a 6 month ban and 3 month salary fine, and the Police should investigate this and if they see fit charge him with either ABH or GBH.

and when he scored he returns the favour by rubbing it in thier faces but they cant take it ...lol nothing wrong there id say.
the tackle (well stamp) didnt van pussie do a lunging tackle on him just before all this happen( thinking there is bad blood from when he was at arse-nal), and lets face it u give it out u got to be able to take it! goes to players and fans alike!!!!!!!
