Burley urged to map out Scotland plans

Former Scotland striker Charlie Nicholas believes George Burley should be made to explain his "vision" for the national team to the Tartan Army after keeping his job as manager.

The Scottish Football Association on Tuesday confirmed Burley would remain in charge despite having failed to secure a World Cup play-off spot.

Nicholas is confident the SFA made the right decision in deciding not to sack the 53-year-old, saying "there's no point changing for change's sake", but has yet to be convinced he has the long-term answers to Scotland's problems.

"I would still like to hear what George's vision and George's ideas are for improving this," Nicholas told Sky Sports News. "I hope they don't just stick the contract in the bottom drawer and say, 'Right, that's fine'.

"Let's hear what George has to say and, once I've done that, then maybe I'll be a little bit more focused and in total agreement with the situation. But I'm not surprised. I didn't think that George would be sacked after the last two games."

He added: "I'm not saying I'm celebrating at the situation because George has made a lot of mistakes and he's got a lot to answer for himself."

Reports suggest Burley will ditch Steven Pressley and Tommy McLean from his backroom staff, a move Nicholas would back.

He said: "I've not been particularly impressed by his backroom staff of (Terry) Butcher, Pressley, and I think Tommy McLean's been in there also.

"He needs to freshen things up and it may be even the right time to bring someone in who could potentially be the next Scotland manager."

  1. Gordon Strachan anyone ?? There aren't many Scottish managers to choose from that would be up to the job - the other option being to bring in a foreigner again (hey it's worked wonders for England !!)....... Roberto Mancini ??
