Championship - MPs raise match-fixing question

Two MPs have tabled a parliamentary question to uncover whether an FA investigation into alleged match-fixing is focused on the Championship meeting between Norwich City and Derby County on October 4.

Norman Lamb, the Liberal Democrat MP for North Norfolk and himself a Norwich supporter, said he made the request on Wednesday in an effort to clear up controversy surrounding the Carrow Road clash - which Derby won 2-1.

Lamb's question is directed at Andy Burnham, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport and reads as follows:

"What discussions he has had with the Football Association on allegations of match-fixing and unusual betting activity involving the Norwich City v Derby County Football League Championship match on Saturday, 4 October."

The FA have refused to comment on the matches at the centre of their investigation - which was prompted by a report in the Sunday Telegraph that highlighted unusual betting patterns in Asian markets - but have released the following statement.

"The FA can confirm that it is investigating an allegation regarding the match between Norwich City and Derby County on 4 October. We are looking into whether there is any substance this allegation," an FA spokesman said."

  1. For god sake. would the bored MP please stand up. If it is'ent bad enough that they have to reenact the film 1984 now they want to start on are football clubs. i dont think so. I love Norwich always have always will its time to stop all the messing around and instead of dissing Norwich they should find away to find help them. So please Mr MP find something else to talk about. NCF4E

  3. Sitting 20th/21st on the tables,Ipswich above us again, nothing but loan players on the roster, Hucks gone to America due to no contract offer, now this. A match fixing investigation. Can it get much worse ???????
    The only thing different than the last few years is Roeder instaed of Grant/Worthington and we only have loan players on the roster. Come on someone take charge of this mess and do something about it FFS. I have been a supporter since the early 70s and have done so from America for the last few years. The MLS and the LA Galaxy are looking better everyday.
