Baggies to benefit from Carson chance

West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo says the club will benefit from news that goalkeeper Scott Carson is still in with a chance of playing for England in the World Cup.

England staff contacted West Brom about Carson last week after Robert Green's red card in the World Cup qualifier against Belarus.

And the Baggies manager believes Carson will be buoyed by the news that he is still on Fabio Capello's radar, which could give him that little extra incentive to lead the side back to the Premier League.

"Unfortunately he had an ankle problem and that's one of those things," Di Matteo told the Express & Star. "There is nothing you can do about it. It's good they are still interested in him.

"Hopefully it keeps him focused to do well and, at the back of his mind, he knows he still has a chance.

"I'm sure it's a psychological boost to him."
