Super League new boys Castleford have signed 22-year-old Australian back-row forward Tom Haberecht on a 12-month contract.

Although he has yet to play first grade in the National Rugby League, Haberecht was St George Illawarra's Jersey Flegg player of the year in 2005 - and last year was a regular for Wests Tigers' junior team Balmain.

Castleford football manager Michael Robinson said: "He might not be well-known but he is a big, strong running back rower with a good offload and fits into our planning of a squad with a good number of young, enthusiastic players."
