Villarreal missed a chance to take over from Barcelona at the top of La Liga when they twice threw away the lead to draw 2-2 at Malaga.

ATLETICO MADRID 4 DEPORTIVO LA CORUNA 1

Deportivo's defenders were at fault for John Heitinga's opener when they failed to cut out Simao Sabrosa's corner and allowed the Portuguese to chest the ball into the net.

Uruguay striker Diego Forlan galloped through to score Atletico's second through the legs of Depor keeper Daniel Aranzubia just after half-time and captain Maxi Rodriguez grabbed a third with just over 20 minutes left.

Forlan got his second with a smart finish in the 81st minute and Filipe scored Depor's consolation just before the end.

GETAFE 0 SEVILLA 2

Luis Fabiano gave the Andalusians the lead in the 36th minute when the in-form Brazilian striker raced on to Ndri Romaric's pass and slotted the ball through the legs of Getafe keeper Roberto Abbondanzieri.

Abbondanzieri also let Sevilla's second in between his legs, rushing out from goal after Belgian forward Tom de Mul burst clear on the left.

MALAGA 2 VILLARREAL 2

Former Manchester United striker Guiseppe Rossi (pictured) opened the scoring for the visitors in the seventh minute when he fired a powerful low shot from the edge of the area that squirmed under Malaga keeper Cesc Arnau.

Portuguese midfielder Duda equalised with a superb long-range freekick with just under half an hour gone and Robert Pires put Joseba Llorente through to score shortly after half-time when his shot flashed between Arnau's legs.

Helder Rosario snatched a late equaliser for Malaga with a glanced header from a corner.

ESPANYOL 3 NUMANCIA 4

Numancia midfielder Txomin Nagore's early opener in a thrilling match in Barcelona was canceled out on 35 minutes by Moises Hurtado before Asier Goiria grabbed the visitors' second just after half-time.

Daniel Jarque's header made it 2-2 and striker Raul Tamudo scored from the penalty spot with around 20 minutes left to put Espanyol in front.

Jose Barkero levelled in the 84th minute before midfielder Carlos Bellvis grabbed all three points for Numancia in injury time.

REAL BETIS 3 RACING SANTANDER 1

Sergio Garcia put Betis ahead in the 27th minute with a clever volley from the edge of the box.

The striker created havoc in the Racing defence 10 minutes later and Cameroon midfielder Achile Emana stroked home from close range.

Garcia got his second and a third for Betis when he intercepted a careless back pass, rounded the keeper and slotted into the empty net. Pedro Munitis scored from long range with around five minutes left.

ALMERIA 2 REAL MALLORCA 1

Almeria took the lead shortly before halftime when striker Alvaro Negredo picked up a loose ball at the edge of the area and curled a fine shot over Mallorca keeper German Lux.

Negredo stroked in a penalty just after the hour and Alhassane Keita pulled one back in added time.

ATHLETIC BILBAO 2-0 OSASUNA

Joseba Garmendia put Athletic in front with just over a quarter of an hour gone when he picked up a loose ball in the area and rifled home after Osasuna keeper Roberto Fernandez had saved from Fernando Llorente.

Llorente, who was called up to the Spain squad for the first time for next Wednesday's friendly against Chile, held off Cesar Cruchaga and swept in Athletic's second after a fine move with two minutes left.
