Mixu: Exits more likely than arrivals

Tue 16 Dec, 03:30 PM

Hibernian boss Mixu Paatelainen has hinted there will be fewer comings than goings at Easter Road in the January transfer window. He said in the Edinburgh Evening News: "I think we should trim the squad a little, but we'll have to wait and see what happens. I don't want to talk about individual names."

Reports suggest out-of-favour full-back Thierry Gathuessi is top of the list of potential sales.

The 26-year-old Cameroonian has not appeared for the first team all season.

Meanwhile, fellow defender Rob Jones insists Hibs will travel to Ibrox this weekend full of confidence following their recent revival.

Captain Jones has helped the Edinburgh club bounce back from a slow start to the season, with 11 points gained from a possible 15 in recent weeks.

Jones has netted twice in that period, including in Saturday's win over Hamilton.

He told Hibernian Interactive: "It's about confidence now, plus the work rate being put in and the desire in the side to help each other - that has I think shown through in those last five games.

"We need to keep moving forward from this but we know we have another very difficult game this week against Rangers at Ibrox.

"We are hoping we've seen the last of the individual errors that were causing us problems - we've talked in some depth about that and how it was making our games disappointing and the results disappointing.

"We've all come together in the last few weeks, and things are going well; on Saturday, we did not play the best we're capable of; we did not pass the ball as well as we know we can, but there were patches when we did pass the ball and create chances.

"We've also managed two clean sheets in our last two games, so I think that the positives far outweigh any negatives from the last couple of games.

"On Saturday, I felt we did really well on the counter-attack in particular. Yes, perhaps we could have been a lot more precise in our passing - and if we had been we'd have done a bit more damage. All the same, a 2-0 win and another clean sheet leaves us with every reason to be pleased.

"I'm always delighted to score goals - but the second was great because it killed them off and ensured our win. Two goals in five games after waiting so long to find the net is great for me, and I hope there will be a few more before the season is out."

He added: "I'll be expecting the usual challenge from Rangers on Saturday.

"Clearly, it will be a difficult game - and they have been doing very well at home of late. We'll do what we always do for these games; you enjoy playing to packed stands, and we will go out and enjoy the game.

"We've played well ourselves away from home; we're on the back of two home wins, and confidence is high."
