Swindon Town chief executive Nick Watkins has revealed that a new manager for the League One outfit could be named this week. With chairman Andrew Fitton out in the USA on business, Watkins has taken on the responsibility of having talks with the unnamed leading candidate, with Newcastle Academy director Richard Money reported to be the favourite.
Watkins told the Swindon Advertiser: "We are conscious of the fact that we need to move ahead now, so whoever gets the job can look at things over Christmas and assess what he wants to do in the January transfer window.
"It's progressing along the lines that we had hoped and could result in something happening in the next 48 to 56 hours, but we have nothing definite to report as yet. We are in discussions with a candidate at the moment.
"As I have said, those discussions are going to be determined not just by us but by people on the other side too. All the candidates are in work at the moment. Therefore they have to be extracted from their current situations, and that takes time.
"We are still hopeful we can reach a successful compromise to get things unlocked. It does need somebody to come in and blow some fresh air through the place. I listened to the Crewe game on the radio the other day and it was very disappointing."
