Sky Blues move final game

Tue 16 Dec, 02:15 PM

Coventry's final home game of the season has been moved forward to the Friday night so the club can celebrate their 125-year anniversary.City were set to conclude their home campaign against Watford on April 25, but the match will now be played the day before.

The Ricoh Arena is run and managed by Arena Coventry Ltd (ACL), a joint venture company consisting of Coventry City Council and the Alan Edward Higgs Charity.

Coventry chairman Ray Ranson explained: "We are just a tenant at the Ricoh Arena at the moment but we have organised a 125th anniversary bash on the Friday and tried to coincide the game with that.

"That has freed up the Saturday and allows (ACL chief executive) Daniel Gidney and ACL to put on a sporting event from which the club would benefit from revenue, so it is part of that ongoing dialogue with ACL and our relationship. If we hadn't had the 125th anniversary event we wouldn't have moved it.

"One thing I have learned in this job is you can't please everyone, so if I have upset a few people I do apologise. But I am sure the Friday night will be a fantastic night."
