Blackburn's part-time defensive coach Nigel Winterburn feels Paul Ince should have been given more time to turn things around at Ewood Park.The Blackburn board met on Monday to discuss the future of the former Macclesfield and MK Dons boss, who guided Rovers to just three wins in 17 league games since his appointment in June.
He leaves with the Lancashire club second bottom of the Premier League.
"I would have loved for him to be given time in the transfer window in January to bring in his own players," Winterburn said.
"I'm positive that he would have seen results improve but the board have decided that isn't the case.
"I think people were starting to panic. The results have not picked up and they've decided they need someone else in place to drive the club forward."
The former Arsenal left-back is now unsure of his future at the club, having been brought in by Ince.
"I'm waiting to hear whether or not they want me to carry on," he added on Setanta Sports News.
"When I signed I told them that if things changed I'd be happy to rip up my contract and walk away."
Former Blackburn striker Kevin Gallacher believes Ince was unlucky that circumstances conspired against him.
Former Scotland international Gallacher said: "I think you need time to get in and blend your own style.
"Unfortunately for Paul a lot of things went wrong, two of his best players were going when he arrived, there was no money to spend, players he brought in were injured and it never settled down.
"I don't think Paul knew his best XI and I think that was the problem.
"When you are letting in an awful lot of goals you've got to rectify it and he didn't quite do that."
Blackburn's record scorer Simon Garner believes the directors acted "admirably" in the timing of Ince's dismissal especially with the transfer window about to re-open next month.
Garner told BBC Radio Lancashire: "Results have gone badly and the board have acted quickly.
"You have got to admire them for trying to get it sorted out and keep Blackburn in the Premier League.
"It is a results business, especially in the Premier League. You have got to stay in that division.
"The transfer window is coming up and you can see why they have done it. They want to get someone in place to say which players have got to go and which ones have to come in."

We had a strong back 4 last season but it seems that since Winterburns appointment our back 4 have lost all direction! nuf said!
Well he would say that as he will be following him out of the door. As part of one of the best back fours ever seen, he obviously hasn't remembered much from his playing days!

He had 5 months, and most of August to get his own players. He managed to give the worst run of results in its history, and the most depressing and boring football I have ever seen (and I've been going to the games for over 20 years).
If anything this guy should have been sacked 2 games ago.
And Winterburn - you are supposed to be our defensive coach. Explain what the hell you did to allow us to concede an average of 3 goals per game.
