Eurosport - Tue, 16 Dec 14:20:00 2008

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock has warned that midfielder Ben Watson will not leave on the cheap in the January transfer window.

The Eagles have made no secret of the fact that they need to offload players, with striker Shefki Kuqi the most likely to be shipped out in order to get his wages off the bill and free up money for players to come in.

Warnock told the Croydon Guardian: "Obviously Kuqi is for sale and Ben is available but people seem to think his contract is up in the summer but it's not, it's up in December (2009).

"He is 23 anyway so it will be a tribunal and we will get a fee.

"We are not going to let him go cheaply because we will get a decent fee at tribunal."

  1. For all partisan and financially blinded QPR fans out there I'm afraid to say that Watson will probably got to a Premiership side and not to your new business. Get what we can for Watson as it's clear he wants to be in the Premiership, sadly. If Kuqi wants a pay-cut then that should be seriously considered.

On another note - I would be amazed if QPR finished in the top 6.

  2. Typical Warnock. Let the player go to a bigger club where he can earn the money he deserves and reach his ambition in football. And of course score the winning goal when we (QPR) play you later in the season.

  3. you cant stop players leaving when their mind is made up least he is re-in-forcing the fact that we arent letting are players g on the cheap like most of these big teams feel they can do to smaller clubs! would love to see watson stay but we are just not at his level as the same for past players like johnson etc tho with kuqi still unsure as he isnt worth anywhere near his quoted wages and if he really wants to stay he would take a major pay cut to stay if he was a true supporter of the club!

come on palace we can do it again and upset the play offs or even 2nd place ha!

  4. Watson want's out, they offered him a new contract and he told them to poke it so selling him for the best price makes sense. I agree with the Kuqi situation but what has he really done for us over the past few seasons?? Ten good games in 3 seasons ain't that good!

  5. What a positive outlook from Warnock, here we are 8th in the league, unbeaten in 6, looking good for a possible promotion push and Warnock is talking of when he will sell two of our currently best performing players instead of talking about keeping them and pushing for that promotion. Great incentive from Palace management. The sooner Jordan goes and a decent backer comes in the better. You don't get promoted by being cheap or selling your best players. Wake up Jordan and Warnock.
