Swedish defender Erik Edman has claimed he has agreed a deal to return to the Premier League with Steve Bruce's Wigan.Former Tottenham star Edman has been strongly linked with a move back to England since the transfer window reopened with Rennes confirming a number of clubs were keen on signing the full-back.
Wigan appear to have won the race for Edman's signature, with the 29-year-old saying the offer to join Wigan was too good to turn down.
"To play in the toughest league in the world again feels terrific." Edman told Viasatsport.
"It was a chance I could not refuse. It's a challenge to face the best players in the world."
Rennes decided to cash-in on Edman as he was out of contract in the summer and could have left for nothing at the end of the season.
"We lose a skilled, professional player and a wonderful person." Rennes spokesman Jerome Poupard told Sportbladet.
"We are a club with a tradition to give young players a chance and we got a few coming through the pipe."
