Edman 'Agrees' Latics Switch

Swedish defender Erik Edman claims he has agreed a deal to join Wigan.

The former Tottenham player has been strongly linked with a move back to England since the transfer window reopened with Rennes confirming a number of clubs were keen on signing the full-back.

Wigan appear to have won the race for Edman's signature as they have been looking for someone to fill their problematic left-back role.

Edman says the offer to join Wigan was too good to turn down.

"To play in the toughest league in the world again feels terrific." Edman told Viasatsport.se.

"It was a chance I could not refuse. It's a challenge to face the best players in the world."

Rennes decided to cash-in on Edman as he was out of contract in the summer and could have left for nothing at the end of the season.

"We lose a skilled, professional player and a wonderful person." Rennes spokesman Jerome Poupard told Sportbladet.

"We are a club with a tradition to give young players a chance and we got a few coming through the pipe."
