Heitinga not expecting Pienaar move

Tue, 17 Jan 12:16:01 2012

Defender John Heitinga believes Everton would be priced out of any attempts to bring Steven Pienaar back to the club.

The South Africa international was sold to Tottenham for £3million a year ago but injuries have restricted his progress and the 29-year-old has made only 16 appearances for the club.

Pienaar has been linked with a return to Goodison Park but his former Toffees and Ajax team-mate believes that is unlikely, with manager David Moyes working to a restricted transfer budget.

"I'd take him back but I don't think it's realistic," the Holland international told the Liverpool Echo.

"They would ask for more money to sell him than they paid us for him and we don't have much more.

"It's up to the manager and the board whether a few players come or not but Pienaar is unrealistic."

  1. When I say neither player is Top Notch I meant Drenthe and Pienaar
This being said Everton play better with Drenthe in the team
Just a pity Everton could not makr the move permanent

  2. Looking back a few years I do not believe Wayne Rooney wanted to leave Everton
Then in August Arteta said he was happy at the club
The list goes on and on and will in my view only continue to grow

I do not think that either player is Top Notch
Pienaar wasn't playing regular football for Borussia Dortmund when he joined Everton initially on loan
As I remember I think Tottenham were pursuing .Pienaar for quite some time and quite frankly I think it was a No Brainer that he would ever move. Any footballer who wants to win things and have a successful career is better off AWAY from Everton (saying this gives me no pleasure)
In recent years Spurs seem to be challenging near the top of the league every year whereas Everton.....

Tottenham will continue to generate cash because they are based in London
Everton have no money and I see no end to the situation
When Manchester United sold shares through the Stock Exchange it coincided with the most successful period in the club's history. If Everton sold shares nobody would buy them

In closing when you talk about paying more for Pienaar than we received that is NOT ON
Not a bad player consistent but more than that he never seems to stay anywhere very long Dortmund are probably the biggest club he has played for in terms of winning the Champions League and they didn't FANCY HIM did they

Everton operate as a business Buy a Player and sell him for a Profit
These days to keep their Heads ABOVE WATER
    Liverpool are Geared to Success
I can also say I have it on good authority Rooney an Everton supporter was or would have been happy to stay at the club

  3. yes Mark , I agree that it is unlikely that Drenthe will stay. At no point was i suggesting he was anything other than a loanee , merely stating that at present Pienaar would be surplus to requirements when we have a dire need for a goalscorer !! Of the two, I would rather see Drenthe at Everton next season though as he brings an air of unpredictability about what he will do to a team that is rather predictable. He is also younger and quicker than Pienaar. From what was being reported at the time he left to join Spurs , Pienarr had refused
the offer of a new contract from EFC and he was sold in the January transfer window or he would have walked out at the end of the season with no transfer fee being recieved. If that was the case, just because it hasn`t worked out well for him at Spurs is not for me a valid reason to have him back at a cost of more than we sold him for !

  4. Martin
With all due respect and while Drenthe has done well since joining Everton ON LOAN
I suspect he will NOT make the move permanent

  5. Pienaar is another player sold by Everton I suspect
Not because he wanted to go
Rather because the club need(ed) the money
I predicted at the time that Stephen Pienaar good player though he is
would not be an automatic choice in the Tottenham Hotspur first team

  6. I`m not even sure we want a player like Pienaar right now, with Drenthe, Billy, Coleman and Barkley all able to play wide. What we do need is another striker, Saha is a shadow of the player he was without looking like scoring ( as is Cahill), Anichebe is still a bit of an enigma as to wether he will be able to stay fit and score goals. Velios is still very much at the learning stage and Straquilasi needs to start scoring soon if he is to be kept at EFC next season.Of these 4, I think one or maybe two of them will be leaving at the end of the season so it is important we have another senior striker now to get the goals we need this season and save the search for one during the close season.
