Portsmouth boss Michael Appleton paid tribute to Hermann Hreidarsson after the FA Cup hero left Fratton Park to join Coventry.
Left-back Hreidarsson, 37, made 123 appearances for Pompey after arriving from Charlton in the summer of 2007.
He was a member of the side that beat Cardiff at Wembley to lift the FA Cup in 2008 and also played a part in their maiden UEFA Cup campaign the following season.
In July, Hreidarrson signed a new one-year contract after recovering from a serious Achilles injury suffered against Tottenham in March 2010, but he has made just two appearances this term.
Appleton said: "Hermann has been a great servant to Pompey over the last few years and is someone I've enjoyed working with since I joined the club. We wish him all the best for the future at Coventry."
