James Wallace has returned to parent club Everton after seeing his loan deal with Stevenage ended without even playing a game for the npower League One club.

The highly-regarded midfielder, 20, rejected the chance to extend his two-month loan stay with Shrewsbury to pen a month-long deal with Boro last Monday.

But the confirmation of manager Graham Westley's switch from Broadhall Way to take the reins at Preston on Saturday has subsequently seen Wallace return to Everton, with the youngster having not featured in Boro's 5-1 victory at Rochdale over the weekend.

The club's official website read: "Stevenage FC can confirm midfielder James Wallace has returned to his parent club Everton.

"After discussions with Everton FC it was decided to be in the 20-year-old's best interests, after he was recruited by former manager Graham Westley prior to his departure.

"There is still a view to resurrecting the deal in the future, however as it stands Wallace has returned to the Premier League club."
