Damon Hill is to join Sky's coverage of Formula 1 this year to help provide expert analysis of the action for half the races.
The former world champion will be a member of Sky's team for the Australian, Bahrain, Monaco, British, German, Hungarian, Belgian, Indian, United States and Brazilian Grands Prix.
Speaking about his new job, Hill said: "The plans Sky Sports have for Formula 1 are very impressive, particularly the dedicated Formula 1 channel and I couldn't resist becoming involved.
"There are so many reasons to be excited about the new season and I can't wait to get started."
Hill will be on call throughout practice, qualifying and the race, with Sky Sport Executive Producer Martin Turner saying he was delighted about the addition to the team.
"Damon Hill is a British motor racing legend and has incredible Formula 1 knowledge and insight," he explained. "He will provide our viewers with not just a driver's eye view, but also that of a world champion. There aren't many around and I'm delighted we'll have Damon with us during the season."

I have just checked the german TV station. As far as I can understand it,
they will broadcast ALL F1 races on Freesat SD this season!!
They seem to put it online too, but I guess you need to have a proxy for this.
The TV station is RTL.
Sky D are broadcasting HD formula1.
Gazdok007 I am afraid you in for a disappointment. Germany is also losing out to Sky pay per view
sky takes another has been boring driver and even more boring to listen to
you dont have to get or have sky sports to watch f1 on sky, as long as you have the HD package you will get the sky f1 channel at no extra cost, i called sky to confirm it and the bloke on the phone said it was true and even only he found out about a couple of days previous.
It is a shame that SKY got half of the F1 coverage and will keep it under wraps to make money. After all they have to get at least the investment back.
I will not buy Sky Sports,BUT I still have a dish pointing at the ASTRA satelites and as far as I know it is still FREE on german TV with the odd add in.
So I can just turn down the volume and get FREE F1 in 2012!!!
Doug why would it disappoint a lot if fans?
Damon can give great insight in the same way Martin Brundle does.
Personally I can't wait for the new season to start, think back to the old tyre wars. Two companies trying to deliver the best product!! The viewer will be the only winner with 2 channels showing the racing surely
why is everyone so down on F1 moving to Sky? Yes i feel fortunate to be able to afford sky but the BBC still has half the races live and shows the rest in full, if a little bit late. So all you have to do is avoid finding out the result until the BBC show comes on. I've got sky but still watch match of the day for the football and still avoid finding out the rssults until it comes on the BBC. stop moaning about it and either accept it or do something about it.
Great news that a great driver such as Damon Hill is going to add brains and experience to Sky F1 programs.
Damon, I suppose it's hard to refuse the money but this is going to disappoint a lot of fans.
I wonder if sky really would drop f1 if not enough people sign up for it???
I do hope this happens and the bbc refuse to take back brundle and the others!!!
