Lack of passion angers Brightwell

Sun 17 Feb, 04:45 PM

Macclesfield manager Ian Brightwell felt his side lacked "passion" during the 3-1 defeat at the hands of in-form Lincoln at Sincil Bank. The Silkmen dominated the opening 30 minutes and took the lead when Gareth Evans rounded goalkeeper Alan Marriott and slotted the ball into the empty net, but Lenny John-Lewis finished from close range before Jamie Forrester grabbed Lincoln's second and substitute Dany N'Guessan wrapped up the victory.

Brightwell admitted: "It was a Jekyll and Hyde performance, in the first half we were excellent, we went 1-0 up and could have had more, but in the second half it was different.

"We were second to the ball and I don't think we showed enough passion, we said at half-time we had to keep the tempo up but we didn't do that.

"People were panicking on the ball, and I was disappointed to lose to a second-half performance like that. Even in the second half Michael Symes had a great chance to go two up, but we are not ruthless enough.

"It is up to the players to have that ruthless streak. In the second half Lincoln were better than us, I don't think there is a confidence problem; we showed that in the first half."
