Gillingham manager Mark Stimson knows he faces a mammoth task if the club are to stave off relegation after a 4-0 hammering at Northampton.Gills have conceded more goals than anyone else on their travels in League One this season and they took another tanking at Sixfields as the home side romped to their biggest win of the campaign.
"I am a big fighter and I will take any criticism on the chin," said Stimson. "I can understand them being frustrated by what has happened but we'll be doing our best to turn it around.
"Certain individuals didn't have the best of games but for 40 minutes I didn't think there was anything in it. Their second goal was a crazy one, and Simon Royce had to make three or four good saves to prevent the score being even more embarrassing."
Stimson reflected on the fact that it was a former Gillingham player in Danny Jackman who pulled the strings in midfield to earn a man-of-the-match award.
"It's amazing he was allowed to leave the club in the summer," he said. "I have seen him play a few times and he is my type of player - someone who is always busy on the pitch. It's embarrassing we could have let such an individual go."
