Paolo Maldini played his 1,000th game for AC Milan on Saturday but even thhat feat could not inspire the Rossoneri as they were held to a scoreless draw by Parma.
Having recorded a 1-1 draw three days earlier against Livorno - a match which saw Ronaldo suffer a career-threatening injury - Milan were desperate to get back to winning ways at lowly Parma.
But the Rossoneri missed the chance to leapfrog over Fiorentina into fourth place and know they need to pick up points if they want to qualify for the Champions League.
And there was a further injury blow for the Rossoneri as goalkeeper Dida - who was on the bench - was carried off with a back injury sustained during a work-out in the half-time break.
Veteran defender Maldini came off the bench with 20 minutes to go for his 1,000th game in a Milan shirt and his appearance seemed to spur his side on.
But the visitors could not force a winner and they stay fifth ahead of their midweek Champions League clash with Arsenal.
City rivals Internazionale prepared for their tricky clash against Liverpool in the best way possible as they strolled to a 2-0 victory against lowly Livorno.
David Suazo scored two goals in as many minutes to give his side all three points and leave Livorno looking nervously over their shoulders at the relegation zone once again.
They are now 11 points clear of second-placed Roma.
The capital side lost 1-0 at Juventus in the evening kick-off meaning the Nerazzurri will have to collapse spectacularly if anyone else is to win the Scudetto.
In Turin, Alessandro Del Piero scored the only goal of the game as Juve accounted for the Giallorossi.
