Rangers Pull Four Points Clear

Sun 17 Feb, 06:09 PM

Kris Boyd scored against his old club as Rangers pulled four points clear at the top of the SPL on Sunday.

Boyd grabbed his 16th goal of the season against former club Kilmarnock as the visitors won 2-0 at Rugby Park to re-assert their authority on the title race.

Celtic had reduced the gap at the top of the table to a single point on Saturday by beating Hearts 3-0, but a goal in each half gave Rangers their win.

A Carlos Cuellar header put Rangers in front on 25 minutes before Boyd sealed the win on 63 from the penalty spot after a handball by Jamie Hamill.

Boyd will now be hoping to fire Rangers to victory over Panathianikos in midweek to keep their UEFA Cup hopes alive.

In the day's other game, Hibernian came from a goal down at the break to beat Aberdeen 3-1 and climb up to fifth in the table.

Zander Diamond had put the visitors ahead at Easter Road as the Dons bossed the first half.

However, Hibs made a storming start to the second half and after Merouane Zemmama's curling free-kick had levelled things up, Dean Shiels put the hosts in front on 55 minutes by hooking the ball over the keeper.

Aberdeen replacement Stuart Duff came within a whisker of a late equaliser as he rattled Yves Ma-Kalambay's crossbar from Scott Severin's cross before Hibs sealed their win in injury time with Steven Fletcher netting his 12th goal of the season.
