Sheffield Wednesday defender Frank Simek has edged closer to a return to first-team action by returning to light training.

The USA international full-back damaged ankle ligaments at Crystal Palace in December and the injury proved more serious than first expected.

Manager Brian Laws said: "We're very pleased with the way Frankie is coming along.

"I wouldn't like to put a timetable on when he might be back, but he's making great progress.

"He's got a smile on his face again because he's back on the training ground."
