Sheffield United have already knocked out Bolton and Manchester City - they go for a third top-flight scalp against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

New Blades manager Kevin Blackwell will not be able to call upon the on-loan David Cotterill, as the midfielder played for Wigan in the third round win at Sunderland. Veteran midfielder Gary Speed is a doubt after limping off in the first half of Tuesday's 0-0 draw with West Brom with a groin problem.

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate may start record signing Alfonso Alves on the bench again, as he continues to ease the Brazilian striker into English football. Lee Dong-gook is set to partner the in-form Jeremie Aliadiere in attack, due to the continued absence of Tuncay Sanli. Defender Andrew Taylor and midfielder Lee Cattermole are also out.

Preston North End v Portsmouth (16:00)

Midfielder Sean St Ledger is suspended following his red card in the Championship match against Colchester. Another midfielder, Billy Jones, is out with a hernia.

Portsmouth striker David Nugent signed from Preston for £6 million in the summer, but will not get to play at his old ground as he is still out with a hernia. He is joined on the sidelines by defensive duo Sylvain Distin and Noe Pamarot, though Pompey are boosted by the return of Sulley Muntari and John Utaka from the Africa Cup of Nations.
