Striker Didier Drogba admits it would be a "disaster" if Chelsea fail to qualify for the Champions League.
The Blues face the prospect on missing out on Europe's top competition for the first time since Drogba joined the club in 2004. They currently sit fifth, just outside the qualification places, following a difficult first campaign for boss Andre Villas-Boas so far.
"If we don't make the top four it would be a disaster," Drogba, who is due to return from African Nations Cup duty this weekend, told various papers.
"Every time we've started a season since I've been with Chelsea we never even finished as low as fourth.
"It is the hardest season I've known since I've been here."

The simple triuth about Chelsea's performance is not coach. It is a problem hinging on ageing players.
The so called Mr Chelsea players need be offloaded so that the coach can see and think clearly on rebuilding a strong team.
Then and again, stability in coaching staff will bring success. Hiring and firing a coach upon expecting an immediate result wont work.
AVB seem not to hear this advice.
In ancient Rome, the most honorable thing the manager would have done is go into his private room, close the door, take out his own sword.......and fall on it. Honor above defeat.
As things stand, the Chelsea fans and those Chelsea players that know and deserve better are already crucifying this loser.
'Give him time'......to do what.....to prove what we all already know.....that he's just not strong enough to lead a team of world class players.
'Give him time'......to watch Chelsea fall into the realms of losers. To fall into the realms of NOT being able to attract more world class players. Weve seen it so many times before......once youre out of the Champions League, its really hard to attract world class players.
'Give him time'.......like @#$%!!!!!
Why would it be a disaster.Chelsea are an average premier side.If Norwich finished 5th they'd be well happy.
Man City
Man Utd
Spurs
Arsenal
Newcastle
Liverpool
Norwich
Chelsea
8th not 7th
We would finish 4th if Jose Mourinho came back as manager!!!
Drogba will leave on a Bosman. He deserves to do that rather than be sold. He has given the best years of his career to CFC and so letting him leave at the end of his contract is an act of honour. Not his fault we have failed this season. It is the fault of the manager. In ancient Rome the manager would have been crucified for this. That at least would guarantee a sell out crowd.
7th
